As a former employee of Queen Marys I definitely agree that it is crowded and small. we would have to "make room" on weekends when we would be overbooked. Reservations are nice ,but Mary will always find a space for the
"walk ins", even if she has to push a reservation back a half an hour. ALL the cakes are fabulous and the creme brulee is to die for. The scones are the best in town, but come early for those,Bev,Mary's mom only makes about 6 a day, and when there gone, there gone. The tea selection in one of the best, and the food is great.I love the soups, and still long for them. However everyone should go for the high tea, and remember to ask for a tiara

What are those little old ladies doing here? Do they want to pretend that they're in England? And what's with all of the tiaras? I'm sure that they could change a few things and attract a very different clientèle on Capitol Hill, but they seemed satisfied with their present group. And they do have delightful teas, and other things, and 'character'. It's a good place to relax and be a tiny bit pretentious for an afternoon.

This is a fantastic business idea catering especially to the higher end neighborhoods in the area; a certain demographic is definitely successfully drawn. The Queen Mary Tea Room is a quaint little place to hold a special get-together with your best girlfriends. Sophisticated, unique, but very accessible. The tea selections are great and the food nibblers are pretty good also. I had a very delish cheese and fruit tray last time I was there. Only complaint would be the tight space... when I think high-tea I think the Empress in Victoria and such = big, grand spaces. But the Queen Mary is a very tight little nook of a dining area. Is that all that bad? No, not really. Creates a very intimate setting for you and your guests, but don't be surprised if you hear all the latest gossip from the table next to you. Enjoy!

I went here for a friend's birthday party recently and was so impressed that I took my daughter for breakfast the next day. They have a huge number of tea varieties, and their cakes are TDF (try the coconut cream). The breakfast menu leans to the eggy side. Everything is very fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The dining area is small, so you should make reservations. Warning: the decor is on the frilly side, and men seem to get rather claustrophobic in here.

A group of us headed over to the Queen Mary for lunch one day. The tea, food and service were all great. Leave room for dessert! The dining area is a bit tight so by the time we left, the room was full and we were squeezing by other guests. But the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly, so no one seemed to mind. A great place to gather with your girl friends. Reservations (website or call) recommended.

The Queen Mary Tea Room is a delightful little place to spend some time with friends or family. They have a wonderful selection of teas to choose from, a staff that can help you choose if you're a tea novice, and nibbles that are delicious.
My moms' group booked a rather large tea (about 16 or so of us) last year, and we had a lovely afternoon sitting, sipping and chatting. They even offered us tiaras to wear for "that special touch."
If you have kids, this is also a fun place to go with them (they serve beverages besides tea). We saw two mothers with younger daughters in there having tea, and the little girls were wearing their tiaras, giggling and totally enjoying the three tiers of scones, cookies and tea sandwiches.
Fun time, great service, delicious tea! What more could you ask for?
