This is my first citysearch review, but my experience at Takis was so fantastic that it compelled me to review it. The food was exquisite, service was friendly and the ambiance was awesome. I don?t know if we went there on a special night but we had belly dancing, Takis music, as well as two singers. I felt like I was transported to Greece with the constant shouting of Ompah and an old woman creating a Greek conga line and teaching the audience how to dance. On top of that the food was spot on. The Skordalia had just the right amount of garlic, my Fiance's chicken slouvaki was huge, and the Spanikopita on my veggie plate was to die for. All of that plus two glasses of wine came out to be $40!!!! All in all it is a fantastic restaurant and I look forward to visiting again.

I stopped in on a sunny weekday afternoon with a friend. We drove around Ballard for almost an hour hunting down a Greek restaurant, and stumbled upon Taki's. We decided to get a gyro each (lamb for me, chicken for her) and split an order of garlic fries, although we'd really wanted spanakopita (sold out, we were informed) and baklava (ditto). The tab came to less than twenty bucks, and even though it took FOREVER to get our food, we tipped the young waitress. She was nice, and the food smelled amazing. We got to see Taki handshave our meats from a huge block hanging over the stove, and enjoyed looking at the gratuitous photos of Taki playing concerts from when he was a young Greek import to L.A.
We went to a nearby park and were eyed jealously by humans and birds alike. It was more food than either of us could handle, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The gyros were fresh and messy, and the yogurt sauce was incredible. I had feta on mine and my friend didn't; she came to regret it. The garlic fries were standard--big chunks of fresh garlic, though, made them some of the best I'd ever had.
I fully intend to go back and get that damned spanakopita.
Pros: Great food, cool atmosphere (live music on the weekends!)
Cons: Looooooong wait time, sell out of the favorites really fast

OK after researching many Greek restaurants I decided to try this one. The reviews were on target. We started the Saganki and Hummus both were excellent but for the price there could have been a little more hummus and at least one more pita. OK now for the main meals. We ordered the Gyro, Avgolemono Soup, Chicken Souvlaki and Lamb Souvlaki. Each was excellent and there was more than enough food on the plate. The only draw back is that the they used dill a little to much, but this was the only con I came across. The service was good but we did go during the off peak time so it may or may not be the same during rush hour. They were very pleasant and check on our status with out overdoing it. I would recommend it to my friends and take any out of town guest there. I plan to go back on a Saturday night to see how it is with the live music.
Pros: value priced lunch specials
Cons: cramped area

We really love going to Taki's. A friend introduced us, and now it is one of our favorites. The Vegetarian plate is a real delight, and all our friends tell us that the gyros and meats are truly special. AND don't miss the baklava whatever you do. It is not as extremely sweet as many renditions--thin layers of filo with lots of delicious mix. Taki's special flavoring has a hint of pumpkin pie and lots of nuts.
The ambiance is very informal--clean, deli-style counter, no table cloths, family pictures on the wall. It is a bit like eating in the kitchen of a really, really good cook. Prices are very reasonable.

Although I've lived in Seattle for going on 10 years now, I still miss the culinary cultural makeup of what I left. Detroit's downtown nightlife (believe me, there is one) is centered around an area known as Greek Town.
So, imagine my delight when Taki's opened several years ago right off of 85th in Ballard. Taki's delivers on tasty gyros overflowing with tzaziki sauce and tender meat. Although I've yet to have theirs, Taki's wife will tell you that their souvlaki is award-winning. The horatiki salad is typically fresh with crisp cucumbers and greek feta. I did find their avgolemono (a traditional lemon, chicken and rice soup) a bit on the tart side. They recently renovated to allow for Taki to entertain with traditional Greek music on the weekends.
I will warn that the seating area is small (which makes for tight quarters) and the tables are small, bistro-types which are don't necessarily make for a comfortable meal. And if you're going for takeout, calling ahead is best as they have a small staff.

It was tasty but lacked the freshness
I had a Gyro and it seemed that it was on the heating tray for a few hours
My wife had their special and again lacked fresh flavor
