I have been hearing Bob Rivers of KZOK raving about 13 Coins so I took my family there today for Father's Day. Bob...YOU DA MAN! We had a blast! Food was amazing and our server was the best. They even had this magician going around and my kids loved him. Sad to admit I have been living in Seattle all my life and had never gone to this icon. Those days are over! I'm now a regular. I had the special: Filet Mignon that was as good as I've tasted and my wife had the Halibut which she said was the best she's ever had. My kids split a huge plate of pasta and they loved it! Prices are fair and I love that I didn't have to search for a parking place. I hate that! Thanks 13 Coins for making my Father's Day one of the best ever!
Pros: Service, Food, Ambience

Excellent food. But don't think your on your way to a Dennys. The food is tasty, high quality, and they offer an extensive menu. However, you're being served by nicely dressed, well-kept waiters, bread served with olive oil before meals etc. It's a classy/casual little place for all hours and all kinds of meals. Prices are on the higher side for late night dining for most, but all the food, selection and service are worth it.
Pros: Excellent Food, Menu Selection
Cons: , Prices a little steep

I have been living in the Seattle area my whole life... I LOVE 13 Coins, and have since I was a little girl. It used to be the special place that my dad took me, now my husband and I have weekly dates there. It is dark, and can be busy, and not everything is great on the menu. But if you have patience, and enjoy some atmosphere, it is a great place to be. I love the Club sandwich!
Pros: Private seating, mood lighting

My sister recommended 13 coins to me when I wanted some late night dining with my boyfriend for our 1 year anniversary. I should have gone with Denny's instead. At least you go there expecting ok service and ok prices. Here, you pay outrageous prices for horrible food. It took an hour and a half to get seated, and the front desk was completely rude, as was the service. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
Pros: None

I first went to 13 Coins when I was about 13 (I'm 39 now), loved it then, love it now. I almost always get either the Chicken Parmesana or Chicken Piccata, and the zabaglioni for dessert, and it always tastes perfect. The atmosphere hasn't changed a bit since back then, which is comforting in many ways. (Annoying occasionally, too, but hey, I can deal with it.) A traditional favorite!
Pros: chicken parmesana, counter seating, parking

After reading the "bad reviews" I was compelled to write a review of my own. 13 Coins has always been a favorite of mine and I cannot help but think that all those bad reviews must have been written by the rude, impatient, and inconsiderate patrons that arrive after 2 AM on weekends. I have never had a bad experience there with the food, service or otherwise. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the food is more consistent and well prepared than most places. For all those people who are complaining about the service after 2 AM on weekends, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT when there is a waiting list for 45 minutes!!!! Give the staff a break or go cook something for yourselves!
Pros: consistency, freshness, service
Cons: crowds, location, entry

The following is an email I sent to 13 Coins following a disappointing visit. To date, I have received no response, to me that just reinforces their declining service. This is an update to an earlier review I posted in 2003, CS retained the old date. My latest visit was 2007.

I've visited 13 Coins many times and always enjoyed it but last night had my first bad experience. My wife and I arrived about 10:30 PM on 12/16. 25 minute wait in the restaurant so we opted to eat in the lounge. Our drink orders (iced tea) were taken promptly but then everything slowed down. When our food orders were eventually taken (10 minutes or so) I asked if the Italian sausage fritatta included hash browns, our server (think his name was Joshua) said he wasn't sure but he'd get me a side of them. I ordered it with mild sausage. My wife ordered Asian chicken salad minus chicken (she's vegetarian). We were never offered your famous antipasto dish or bread. It would have come in handy as our wait for our food was long, at about the 30 minute mark our server apologized. I asked for bread to tide us over, at that point he brought the antipasto and lots of bread. When the food arrived soon after, I found the frittata was made with spicy sausage, and lacked the spinach and zucchini the menu claimed it included. The side of hash browns was small, not the 13 Coins size I expected. The frittata was disappointing, overcooked and sorely needing the veggies. No point sending it back after it took that long to arrive. Server did offer to bring us free dessert. It was late enough so we said no. When I saw the check and found the small side of hash browns were $6.95 I asked if he could remove those from the bill in lieu of the dessert and he promptly did so.
I understand the restaurants recently changed hands. Pity if this new, lower level of service is a symptom of that and not an aberration.
Pros: 24 Hour service, variety
Cons: Price, slow service, errors

Times have changed at the Coins their wait staff finished my long time relationship as a regular known by name and hat by perpetually herding my wife and I to the counter when you request a booth. The counter is for single patrons not couples seeking a bit of sanctuary during the early hours, that is why you pay the prices you do at the Coins. The place is in the throws of an identity crisis not knowing if it should be a quiet well-mannered refuge 24 hours a day or another theme restaurant with local radio DJs barking in the lounge. How you are treated depends on who is there at the time. At 2-4am, worn and ready for a meal its hard to recommend a place leaving you tossing a coin about how your experience there will be. The Coins is distinctive only now in the wrong way.
Pros: 24 hr, menu
Cons: wait staff

The 13 Coins has been around on the Seattle Scene for many years. This "24 Hour" Lady needs an update. Service can have an attitude or be very pleasant. The menu is wide, and it's not Denny's pricing! The counter seats are best. It's a late night icon for Seattle. Try the Joe's Special. Don't forget the "Zab" for dessert. Not everything on the menu is wonderful or "****" but, it's two o-clock in the morning and do you want to be at Denny's at this hour? I Vote 13 Coins!
Pros: Wide Menu Options, Great Counter View, It's 24 Hours!
Cons: Needs Updating, Staff Attitudes.., Crowded @ times.
