I have noticed whenever there is a truly fine business there will be some bogus negative reviews (assumably from competitors). I have eaten at the best restaurants in Boston, NY, Chicago, SF and Seattle. Here was my experience w/ Canlis - FANTASTIC in every way. They have made an art form of service and the food does not disappoint either for the price. If you need to impress someone - someone that has money and knows class - this is a sure bet. Just go to Canlis
Pros: Service, Atmoshpere, Food
Cons: $$$$ - PRICEY

We got married in the Penthouse at Canlis in May 2005, and have had dinner several other times. The service was just amazing, and the food and wine was excellent. The sommeliers are experts, and the entire waitstaff very helpful and knowledgable. The menu changes seasonally and is not very extensive, but I've never been disappointed. They specialize in Northwest cuisine and seem to use a lot of local ingredients. There is often a chef's tasting menu which is quite unique. Desserts are excellent and the wine list is huge.
A great place for a romantic dinner or an event. They are very flexible in letting you bring in your own cake, flowers, etc. Their events coordinator came into work on our wedding day just to help us out, even though she doesn't usually work on Saturdays.
Everyone at Canlis goes the extra mile to make it a special occasion, even just for an ordinary dinner. For an extremely special occasion, book the Cache, a private dining room for 2-4 people. It's unbelievably romantic and has a breathtaking view.
Parking is all valet and your car magically arrives when you leave the restaurant - no waiting!
PROS: amazing service, great for events, lovely view, yum food
CONS: very expensive, forced valet parking (that's not free)

This is one of the best all around restaurants I have had the pleasure to visit.
If only I had not been there alone in the city. What a place to wow my girlfriend.
I am plotting a way to take her along next time even if it costs a fortune for the airfare
and hotel.
Pros: everything, Old World Service, perfect
Cons: Not in my town

Whenever my wife and I have something to celebrate, or even just want a really fantastic dinner out, Canlis is always at the top of our local restaurants to go to. The service is always top notch, the food is superb. The crabcakes are one of our favorites, and their entrees are always well prepared, well seasonsed, and thouroughly enjoyable.
An extensive wine list helps make the evening complete, as well a very tasty dessert menu. Plan dinner right around sunset to watch the amazing colors play across Lake Union as night falls to help set the mood for the rest of the evening.
It's spendy, but well worth it, every time.
One note: While it isn't necessarily a "black tux" restaurant, show respect for your fellow patrons, and your appreciation of the restaurant by dressing up a little bit. It's worth putting on that neck tie and nice shirt for.

As for location it has a wonderul view.
As for the food it was pretty good but you are paying TOP dollar for it. I have had some good seafood here.
Beware this is a place you will want to dress up for.
This place would be romantic with it posh surroundings and food but when we have gone it seems like alot of older folks.
They host an impressive wine list.

Although I have only been to Canlis once (at the pirvate room Cache), I think it is among one of the best restaurants in the Seattle area. The food is great, although for the price I'm sure there are many restaurants that may offer food just as good if not better. However, the ambience and the service is terrific. The waitress was very attentive and the view was wonderful. Not a wine expert myself, Canlis seems to have a very extensive wine list. If you are looking for a private dining experience with that special someone, give Canlis a try and you will not be disappointed!
Pros: service, food, view
Cons: can be pricy

To Seattlites, Canlis has always received praise and respect for its dependably impressive food and unique location. I cant argue that the restaurants location is remarkable and provides some of the best dining views in town, but the food is very expensive and while it tastes good, Im not convinced it is always worth it. I know, though, that the reputation precedes this place, and that in going there, its not all about the food. So, go prepared to pay a lot, get good food, and youll be satisfied!
