Well, if you are taking your parents out, there are a couple of traditional places that just reek of Seattle. Assuming you actually like them (your parents I mean). The first is Canlis, we've been there a couple of times this year and the main thing is that the view is just spectacular. You overlook Union Bay and at night it is great. The food has been considerably updated from the 80s and it is now really Pacific Northwest so should be fine for folks. And the wine list is superb.

Canlis is not the place for you if you can't seem to figure out how a sports jacket makes a steak taste better. Their wine steward/selection was simply unmatched from my experience locally. But the wagyu was acceptable, seasoning was absent, texture was good, nothing to write home about. My friends filet mignon had a chunk of gristle in the middle. Service was amazing. Many better choices for steak locally. Pros: service, wine list Cons: over hyped, dress code, stuffy

iserable experience. We made reservations a month in advanceparty of ten for a special birthday. Canlis overbooked and kept us waiting for 2 solid hours. Granted, they did offer free appetizers and drinks, but it completely spoiled our other plans for the evening. Further, once we were seated the service was horribly slow and the food was just mediocre (compared to The Met or Mortons).

I was interested to eat in Canlis because of the reviews that I read in this site. I was very looking forward to eat the Wagyu tenderloin, however the taste is not like the kobe-beef I had before. I did some research & I found that Wagyu beef is supposed to be a kobe-beef but the fact is it isn't what I'm expecting, the tenderness is comparable to others meat, it's not superior where it should be. However the service is pretty good, I reserved the cache room it was not that spectacular, I would prefer the main dining room. The crab cake was good though, and so are escargots and Peter Canlis' prawns. I'd recommend Canlis salad. The Souffle was pretty good too. The muscovy duck is better than the Wagyu tenderloin. Pros: service, ambience Cons: steak not worth it

Yes, the view is beautiful and food is great, but I was most impressed by the stand-out, attention to detail service that was reflected in all aspects of the meal. First off, parking is valet only. They don't give you a valet card and they don't even ask you for your name. You are greeted inside by Chris Canlis, who asks for your name, checks on your reservation and somehow tells the valet staff to associate you with your car. At the bar the waiter asks your name as you sit down and takes your order. The tab is automatically transferred to your table. Our server paid equal attention to detail, however erred with our desert order (mistaking our pre-ordered Chocolate Lava cake for a Souffle). Our order takes extra-long in the kitchen, and once the mistake was discovered our order must have been given prioritized and was out in no time. The Dungeness crab cakes were an absolute stand-out and a must try. The steak was cooked to perfection. Our car was waiting for us at the door by the time we got there. The restaurant definitely draws an older crowd.

We chose to celebrate our anniversary here and didn't regret it! The view was amazing as was the beauty of the restaurant itself. The service was excellent and didn't miss a beat within the whole two hours. Since it is extremely expensive, I heard the food wasn't worth "that" much, but we had the steak and lamb and it was so good! Our server even brought us dessert for the anniversary when we didn't order any and that was very generous and good as well. All in all, it was the perfect night for our anniversary. It is very pricey, but everything went great. Pros: ambiance, service, food Cons: pricey, only valet

I've actually never been there just for dinner. Its reputation as being old and stuffy with surf and turf just didn't sound interesting. But we went there for a wedding reception and folks are right it is stuffy, but the view is spectacular. The food was surprisingly good for traditional fare. I would say it is right to say it is for the older crowd.

Just goes to show that quality lasts! "Odd Hwy 99 access"? When I was there, 99 was the main drag, and Canlis was right there with easy access. You dont move a legend to accommodate the DOT. Pros: Fantastic ambiance, Beautiful view Cons: None - You get, what you pay for!
