We booked the Cache room for our 10th anniversary and unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype.
Let me start by saying I"ve been to Canlis for many types of occassions and I know what I'm in for in terms of food, wine, service - and cost. But we went here on our 1st anniversary so thought it would be great for the 10th. Well...
First off, the cache room is honestly nothing special. A little cramped room you reach by going up the back staircase crowded with unused chairs and clutter. Very bad was to try and impress your guests.
Once you get to the room there is a round table in front of a window and a little couch. That's it. Oh, and a stereo behind a flimsy bamboo screen where you can put in your own CD's - which I must admit is cool.
Food was ok, nothing earth shattering. The Canlis salad was so overdressed I couldn't eat it. The seafood/Canlis chowder tasted canned. And my husband's $75 waygu steak was just good, nothing amazing.
The service was very good, with the waiter giving a little knock before he entered. Wine service was top notch.
Overall, I'd say the experience didn't do anything to make me want to come back anytime soon, not with all the great restaurants out in Seattle. The Cache room wasn't anything I'd waste another $100 extra on.
Pros: amazing wine list and service are still top notch
Cons: Soggy salad, food not noteworthy, Cache room very overrated

This was our third visit to Canlis. The past few times we have been there it's been amazing. This time it was short of that. We selected the tasting course complete with wine. We didn't feel the wine complimented the dinner as good as we expected. The first course was served with sake. I'm not a fan of sake but my husband is. He thought it was "OK". The rest of the wine that was served with dinner was alright. The muscat with desert was awful. So that's 2 out of 4 wines that we didn't care for. The main thing that really bothered us was how rushed we felt. I wasn't done with my first couse yet when the waitress abruptly took my plate away. Mind you my fork and knife was still on the plate to suggest I was still eating. Every other course we had, we felt her peeking over our shoulders to see if we were done. Few times, they tried taking away my food before I was done and I had to explain that I wasn't done yet. You would think after the first time, they would wait more patiently. We had to ask to slow down our service. Our reservation was at 8:30 so it's not like someone else was waiting for our table.
With all that being said, dinner tasted wonderful. Which is why I wanted to savor every taste! The tasting menu was fantastic - it was just the wine we were dissapointed with. The restaurant is very romantic and we will be back - just hopefully with different servers!
Pros: Delicious Food
Cons: Pricey but worth it! Service felt rushed

I read all the good reviews about Canlis, so had very high expectations. I have to say all of them were met. I think the details impressed me the most. The waiter gave us a little sample of food while we were mulling over the menu, and gave us sorbet to clean our palette after the first course. They set our exquisite bottle of wine on it's own stone coaster.
My other favorite part was the view. We got there at about 6:15, and had the pleasure of watching dusk settle on Lake Union and the surrounding hills. I loved watching the pinpoints of light come on in neighborhoods.
The food was delicious. Started with Canlis salad, then had a peppercorn topped filet mignon. Delicious and superb!!
Plus, they remember your coat and car without you even having to ask!
Pros: Romantic, View, Food, Wine
Cons: Pricey

Ah yes, dining at it's absolute apex. I in fact, ate so much, I had to relieve my self in the latrine several times, by means of forcing my fingers down my own throat, and purging that filthy fattening, yet delicious cusine. Another plus is the exclusivity of such posh sorroundings in that thier were no "colored" people in sight as one main course would cost several of thier " welfare" checks. I must conclude that Canlis is not your average run of the mill restaraunt, also the male washroom attendant offered a "carnal engagment" in one of the stalls, (to which I kindly accepted) for a small fee, (which was very much worth the 20 dollars)
Pros: very nice ambience and homoerotic atmosphere
Cons: poor parking

Just went there last night. Dungeness crabcake appetizer was great, escargot was so so. Salads were mediocre at best. Delicious clam chowder - lots of potatoes in it. Lamb entree was overcooked. Filet entrees were great. Salmon - overcooked on the edges but great in the middle. Desserts were great as were the tea selections at the end. Nice wine selection. Excellent service and ambience. Great for a date I'd say.
Pros: Ambience, service, wine list
Cons: overpriced for the food quality

What a pleasure! I have avoided going here for all my years in Seattle due to the expensive reputation. I recently went as part of a small group and could not have been happier with the entire experience. The service was amazing, the food was grilled to perfection and coursed perfectly, and all of the wine recommendations were spot on with each course. I will definitely be back!
Pros: Excellent Service, Ambience

My experience dining at Canlis was phenomenal. The food was out of this world. The service was incredible. One of the servers even took us on a personal tour and told us about the history of the restaurant. They are passionate about food and preserving the memories that you will have dining there.
The experience is worth every penny that you spend so don't keep passing it by as you drive home, go in and be pampered! I know that the first chance we get, we will be back.
Pros: The dining experience you will have there.
Cons: Nothing!

My fiancee took me to Canlis to celebrate my graduation from the UW. The service was first class. From the moment they take your car to the time you leave you are treated like VIPS. The views are beautiful. The room feels a little outdated to me but I still loved it. The food was good- not the highlight of the evening though. The menu and wine list are very pricey but well worth it. You are paying for the experience. Highly recommend for special occasions.
Pros: View, Service

Everything about Canlis is world class. What I appreciated most was the excellence of the staff - they were geniunely friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about dining and creating an amazing dining experience. The food was wonderful - the kobe beef was perfect. If you are into wine, or even if you aren't into it, let the sommelier work their magic to help enhance your food. Although expensive and jackets are required, it is down to earth and there is no pretentiousness.

We were met by three employees at the door and the attention never slackened. At our table -- at appropriate times -- we were approached by, or introduced to, no less than 5 other employees, all with their own expertise. And each were charming, diplomatic and assiduously knowledgeable; I would have invited any of them to my home for a meal!
Every plate we were served was delightfully displayed and perfectly seasoned. From salads to pastas to steaks to seafoods to desserts, we were exclaiming and offering bites to each other and questioning the staff.
I have never bothered to write a restaurant review before, but we were very enthusiastic about our Canlis experience and would recommend it to the most particular diner.
Pros: Valet serves everyone from memory! Incredible view and best service in Seattle
Cons: Bring your wallet
