Sometimes restaurants use trendy ingredients instead of quality to sell their dishes. The Baguette Box is a great restaurant for faux sophisticates, but it's sandwiches won't likely please anyone else. The menu here is spattered with exotic ingredients, which I guess is supposed to impress us. The sandwich I tried there had bread so crusty that I wasn't able to bite through it; biting into it just presses the two pieces of bread together, effectively squeezing out the sandwich's innards. The sandwiches have little meat, but are pricey nonetheless.

I just wish I had more stuffing and a little less bread. More than a few bites came up short and stuff-less. Oh well, the truffled frenchies were superb!

Eric, one of the owners/chefs at the acclaimed vietnamese restaurant Monsoon has opened a sandwich shop. He says he grew up eating sandwiches made on baguettes in Vietnam and LOVES sandwiches so much he opened this shop. Everything we've gotten so far has been excellent. The spicy beef stew has a huge aray of flavors and is wonderful. The fries are thick and very crispy and IMHO perfect. As far as the sandwiches- we have tried four and they were all very good: crispy drunken chicken, roasted pork loin with apricot aioli, grilled spanish chorizo and roasted leg of lamb with cucumber yogurt. All of these are served on baguettes. Finally, I tried the beet salad with garlic olive oil and it nearly melted in my mouth.
Catering is available. Prices for sandwiches range from $3.40 - $7.50 (for the house-cured salmon gravlax).

Baguette Box is small, close to downtown, and has an eclectic and yummy collection of sandwiches - everything from a slightly upscale Vietnamese banh mi to the incredible if decadent drunken chicken sandwich. There's a Salumi salami sandwich (always a sign of good taste), and also a nice beet salad, and usually a soup or two. Great stop in/drop in for lunch - nice big tables for groups as well.
