My brother-in-law loves this place for their oatmeal, so we always tend to go when the family is in town. I'm not in love with Louisa's. I'd like to be. I like the idea of a little neighborhood cafe where you can have lunch or breakfast, but the thing is I'; I'm never impressed with their menu, and the food never tickles me. The service is always good, and I'm never disappointed with that aspect, but to me the food is nothing to write home about.

The baked goods are hearty and authentic, the painted tables and art on the walls make it an inviting hangout. When I was there last, they had some old Billie Holliday songs playing in the background, and I sat by the window and ate apple cinnamon rolls and listened to my friend tell about her relationship troubles. It's an open, freeing kind of atmosphere where good conversation can happen. Sundays get a little crazed because there are zillions of families and groups of friends there and the lines get long. Counter people are fallible, but nice about correcting their mistakes. This is one of my favorite places.

I don't get to Eastlake often, but yesterday I had a chance to eat at Louisa's. First time I've actually sat down and eaten there. Nice spot. They have a good assortment of baked goods, make a tasty sandwich for lunch and round it out with homemade soup. KPLU plays jazz in the background. They serve Cafe Vita coffee. It's got a nice relaxed feel to go with the food.
Oh, and they have free wi-fi and don't mind if you hang out a while.

I've lived in Eastlake for almost 6 years now and go to Louisa's fairly regularly, and I've never experienced any rude service -- but YMMV. The service can occasionally be slow, but within the last 6 months, things seem like they've improved. It's a little less crowded than it used to be (maybe because a few people would rather do the new corporate coffee thing down the street), so maybe that's had a positive effect on speediness.
At any rate, the food is great for what it is, but maybe a bit overpriced on some items (as some have mentioned).
Free WiFi too.

Personally, I agree that the place is slow to serve (although I've never had rude folks). I will say that my very favorite coffee shop (now sadly demolished to make way for a bigger Cafe Lagos) was the Daily Grind. Jackson who ran it was positively a character and could be very rude, but I just loved that.
A place with personality. The bagels are good and so are the soup and sandwiches. Also the coffee is OK, but mainly it is the atmosphere. Long live the Daily Grind and the long dead Surrogate Hostess, this place keeps up the tradition of interesting places run by interesting people.

This morning I got up and out of the house in time to make it to Louisa's Judy Tuesdays to get a free coffee and boy, was it worth it. I paid an extra 50 cents for extra chocolate (I am not the largest coffee fan) and it was delicious. In addition, I paid $1.95 for the best muffin i've had in a long time (do you think this is expensive? i don't, you should see the size of it) . Raspberry Muffin, by far the best item on the menu that i've have so far... i have yet to try the good looking brownies...

If Louisa's improved their service and the attitude of their servers (and owner!), it would rate much higher. The pastries, sandwiches and entrees are good, and their ambience is great, but you have to wait FOREVER to get your food, and the people taking your order are often snarky (although Louisa herself can be the snarkiest). The self-serve coffee pots are often empty, and Louisa absolutely freaks out if you touch them when you ask for them to be refilled. I really want to like this place, but until they speed up their service a bit and improve their attitude, I don't think I'll be back.

My boyfriend and I love going out the breakfast. We recently tried Louisa's and will definitely be back. The atmosphere is great. It feels like a small town restaurant and you feel welcomed on your first visit. The omlette's are great and I can't wait to go back to try the homemade granola or one of the amazing looking pastries.
