Kwanjai Thai is in a cute little "hut" on 35th Ave in Fremont. I don't live in Fremont and often forget about this little gem when considering my options for Thai food. Of Seattle's many Thai places, Kwanjai falls in my top 10. The atmosphere is relaxed, cute and simple. It is not fancy but it is very clean with plastic checkered table clothes and sometimes a candle. It is a bit like a interior picnic, but that said it has an authentic "we're here for the food" vibe. I have tried many of their dishes over the years and have not been disappointed. Their Phad Thai is good though not as "fried with egg" as Thai Toms in the U.Dist. Recently though, I order the Green Curry every time I go because it is done so well. Perfect coconut sauce, I usually get it with chicken and a decent amount of vegetables. The prices are VERY reasonable, most dishes are around $6- $8 with all being less than $11. Decent size portions, some hungry guys can finish it, but I have lunch or a snack to take home after. The food quality is high, and there is no residual "I don't feel so good" for those with less-than-perfect-constitutions. With the Green Curry I find the left overs are as good (if not better, after marinating in the sauce longer) the next day, with no quality issues. Service is quick and efficient. The staff is attentive to refilling waters. The food comes out fast and fresh. Kwanjai Thai is great for a fast delicious informal Thai meal. Perfect for a single person grabbing a bite or a quick dinner before rushing off to a concert/theater/show. If I lived in Fremont, you'd probably see me there once a week. :)

It's been 3 long years since I lived close enough to Kwanjai Thai to stop in for take-out, and no other thai place quite lives up to it! My husband and I used to call our order in on the way to Fremont, and I just loved the amazing smell when I hopped out of the car to pick dinner up. The place is small, but they are friendly and quick, and the food is amazing. My husband & I are die-hard red curry and phad thai fans, but we've taken out-of-towners here and they've always raved about their selections, too. The balance of spices and sweetness is perfect, everything tastes fresh, and the phad thai never seems oily or greasy (a common problem, we've found). If anyone can suggest a great place on the east side of I-5, please do!

yes, thats sarcastic. Thai food is all over the place in Fremont, but for lunch my co-workers and I go here quite often. They have a nice combo meal and you can get out of there for about $10 or less everytime. The main waitress, I don't know her name, is always very nice, whether you know her or not, but if you become a regular she becomes very talkative and friendly and we even got a free dessert once.

Kwanjai has awesome food. It is not your fancy romantic date place, but has a pleasant interior and a tiny street patio, the service is fast, portions big, and the food is really tasty. My pad thai was enough for 2 full dinners. If asked how spicy you want your meal on a scale 1-4, be careful. I am pretty spice-tolerant, but I could have probably used the 2 instead of the 3 I ordered. As far as Thai food goes, the prices are probably about or slightly above average, but it's totally worth it.

Here in Fremont, it seems every other storefront is a Thai restaurant. (They alternate with the coffeehouses and antique/junk shops). But among them, Kwanjai stands out for its friendly and blindingly fast service, reasonable prices and, especially, its truly outstanding food. The noodle dishes, especially the Pud Kee Mao, are fresh and flavorful, and they really will vary the "heat" of the dish from very mild to painful at your request. The curries, especially the green curry, are plentiful and delicious. And the entrees, such as Summer Fire, have great fresh vegetables. Everything's good with tofu or meat. The waitstaff are friendly and helpful, and the service is unbelievably fast, even with a group of four. In the summer, there's outdoor seating; highly recommended, since the restaurant gets pretty hot. I can't recommend this place enough; it's an absolute gem.

I love the Phad Seeiew at Kwanjai. The salads are always fresh and fiery—get the squid—it’s never overcooked. The curries also run toward the flaming hot. The knock on Kwanjai is that they can be pretty liberal with the oil. I haven’t really found this to be the case. Veggies are cooked very nicely—never overdone.

Kwanjai has become our primary stop for lunchtime Thai food. There are so many Thai places to choose from in Fremont, and many of them are quite good, but the service at Kwanjai puts it over the top. We go there about once a week, and recently when we were waiting across the street to cross, the waitress came out and held up her fingers asking how many of there were. She prepped a table for us before we were even across the street. The lunch prices are fantastic, and most of the dishes I have tried have been very good. Soup comes with lunch.
