I have to admit that the first time I went to Lark I was sorely disappointed. The best thing I had all night was the cheese plate, and I left feeling unsatisfied.
My most recent experience, however, has more than redeemed Lark in my eyes. My boyfriend and I went in and had course after course of wonderfully prepared dishes -- all of which looked, smelled and tasted exquisite. I enjoyed every bite and would go back again and again if my budget allowed.
I would reccomend Lark as a great place to go with a date, a family member, a loved one, or anyone else. The noise levels can get a little duanting when they are busy, since there is little to muffle the noise, but if you can get past that, it is definitely worth a visit.

We have been to Lark a number of times over the past few years - they really cook some wonderful food, I love the small plates - but they need to add more green vegetables. The only green vegetable offered the other night was broccoli - how about some fresh summer green beans or summer squash - not to mention pea vines. I really would have enjoyed a salad, too - but there were not any salads offered.
The tarte tatin is wonderful for desert.

Ambience is great - if I could build a cabin in the San Juans - this is how it would be.
Just go, you won't be sad.
Bonus: like most decent Seattle restaurants, they finally have Hendricks gin.

Lark doesn't take reservations for parties of less than 6, so we went early to make sure we could get a table. Arriving before 6 we were the first people there. The servers were understandably very attentive - and they continued to be so with every table. They knew the menu in detail. They knew the wine list in detail. They recommended pairings.
The menu is quite diverse. It is broken down into sections, including cheese, veggies, sausages and foi gras, fish, and meat. We chose something from every section and were not disappointed.
We selected 3 cheeses that worked very well together, and a very good mozarella and onion dish that was subtle but flavorful. Yellowtail carpacio was outstanding - not too fishy, and the shaved fennel was a great complement. We had a duck leg that was smokey and crispy. The hit of the meal was a farro (like bulgar) with marscapone and onion.
For dessert we had a rhubarb cobbler with a gingerbread crust that was really tasty. Ginger and rhubarb is a good combo. And an interesting creamsicle made with mayer lime juice.
The Lark space is great. Distressed hardwood floors, highback wood benches in the booths. It's light enough to see what you're eating but not too bright. The one thing we noticed is that the noise level didn't increase as the crowd grew.
The one caution is around timing. Per above they don't take reservations for parties of less than 6. The place fills up around 6:30 or 7 pm. There is a very small waiting area.
If you like small plates and variety go check out Lark.

There's Crush, Crave, Cave, Dave: the crowd of one-word named restaurants in Seattle. Trendy to the hilt.
And, then there's Lark.
The ambience is calm with a subtle touch of hip. The restaurant is inside an old, not huge building that looks to be from the early 20th century. They have stripped out the inside to the 2x4s holding up the roof and added some paneling, a few curtains, some really interesting paintings.
The crowd is casual/chic, to coin a cliche. The staff is courteous, helpful and knowledgable. The wine-by-the-glass list is not huge but seemed to have pretty good basics.
Dinner is served tapas-style, and yes, it can add up. The server recommended 2 dishes per person, but I think you can get by with 3 dishes for 2 people and that way you have room for the cheese course or dessert (or both). We were too full for the cheeses, but did try the rhubarb crisp, which was Amazing: not too sweet, and served with real cream.
Oh dear, I talked about the dessert and did not describe the dinner. We ordered: the morels/pasta plate (divine, earthy, very fresh), the scallop tartar (which had a wee bit too much fennel for our taste), the striped bass (divine grilled with a touch of butter and shallots) and the quail (perfectly served with watercress). Portion sizes were appropriate.
Parking is free if you score a street spot after 6pm. Location is on 12th across from Seattle U.
This is, by far, my favorite restaurant in Seattle.

This place is stark in its ambiance, and is like going for sushi or tapas: sneaky expensive. Very tasty, but microscopic portions.

I would highly recommend the scallops, the yellow tail carpaccio and the ribs were amazing. Also for dessert order the pine apple camel dessert!!

I've only been to Lark once, but I have to admit I was impressed by the new "in" eating spot in town thats been the talk of the foodies in Seattle.
We started with a cheese coarse of three cheeses- all were excellent- served at the correct temperature and the honey comb went well with the goat/sheep based cheeses.
We tried a fish dish, which was good, but not spectacular. However, the crispy duck was amazing, you must try it if is on the menu. We also tried the special- an escargot tart with potatoes, bacon and caramelized onions. The escargot was a bit tough, however everything else was perfect- a flaky, rich buttery puff pastry.
Lastly, I ordered the pear tart tatin- perfect. My friend loves the lemon parfait.

I always love going to Lark. I love everything about it. Almost. I love the service, the drinks are perfect, the food is incredible, the room is beautiful. Everything is so great, except it's a pain in the neck to park. The only thing I can remember when I'm leaving is whatever I just ate so that I can order it again next time. The walk to the car gives me more time to think about why I don't go more often.

I won't lie--the food here is delicious and wonderfully prepared and presented. However, I felt like I was transported back to the 80's when you were supposed to be impressed by the teeny tiny portions coupled with high prices. The prices are frankly, ridiculous. One of the apetizers is a sampler "trio" of cheeses that provide literally one mouthful of cheese per type. The price tag on this? $11. Also, it is a tapas-style restaurant, so each dish is meant to be shared and I'm sorry, you can't share ONE short rib.
