Best

Right near I-5 in the heart of Northgate, this Indian food place is great for buffet style lunch or dinner and drinks. very authentic Pros: Cheap, Delicious

Worst

My wife and I have been to this restaurant 4 times. The food is fabulous. This last time we had a coupon that they send out once a month. As per the coupon we gave it to our serve...

Good food, but they have some problems 5/23/2007

Updated review: Recently I've had the craziest interactions regarding their so-called "free delivery". Bear with me here, and maybe you can understand the math. I ordered about $20 of stuff (just for myself) to make it worth their while, even though I live very close by. I was told that they don't actually have free delivery like their website states, but that there is a $20 minimum. When I explain that I've ordered $20 worth of stuff, they say that I didn't. After I list everything I've ordered, it's price, and the total, they admit that I have. I'm then told that the minimum for delivery is now $30. I explain that it's just me, and there is no way I can justify ordering that much. Then they say that if I go back to the $20, they will kindly offer me a $3 delivery fee. I decline. I'm stuck at home injured after a car accident and it's not worth it to me to haggle for my dinner. I really love the food from this restaurant, but the run-around is unpleasant and I just don't feel good about it. Bottom line: Be honest with your customers. They will pay for things you ask for, but don't bait and switch. Not only is it bad for business, it's illegal! Original review: Everyone has different tastes, but I am shocked that there are unfavorable reviews of this restaurant! This is one of our favorite neighborhood places. The butter chicken is lovely, and aloo tikki comes in an addictive sauce that you can dip naan into (raita + tamarind = sweet but spicy). Please try this place yourself and let me know what you if you disagree! The best deal is their lunch buffet. more

Masala: Bad Food 3/20/2006

This is the worst Indian food in town. I have been to many Indian restaurants in Seattle over the last 25 years and Masala is the worst. I took an out of town guest there recently and I was really disappointed. The food was just awful. It looked and tasted like hot dog food. I don't know how they stay in business. more

Pretty good Indian Food 12/8/2005

This restaurant is unexpectedly cozy and quiet for a place directly adjacent a shopping mall and a busy street. The staff have always been quite courteous to us, seating and attending to us promply and making sure the chai stays refilled. The food is overall very good, although sometimes a bit hit or miss. The curries are good, the rice and peas dish is tasty. I would recommend this restaurant for a good hot meal if you're in the Northgate area. They also have special meals on holidays when most other restaurants are closed. more

Yuck! 8/26/2005

I have to say that I think the food at Masala of India, located on Northgate Way, is awful. I tried it several years ago and vowed never to return. Then a friend talked me into trying it again. I found the Chicken Tikka Masala inedible, the chicken was so full of gristle and weird stuff. I would definitely recommend avoiding this place. more

consistently good & friendly 8/17/2005

Masala's is consistently good, friendly, and easy-going. My wife and I have been going there every few months (on average) since they opened... Alas, our favorite waiter has gone back to India, but we've continued to have the same good experiences anyway. They even sold me a batch of ghee when I asked them where I could find it so I could try my own hand with Indian food. The buffet is good, but I prefer to order off the menu because the buffet carries mainly the standard (good!) north-Indian buffet items, and the menu offers a chance for more variety. more

Food and Price the best 8/13/2005

The best deal is the daily lunch buffet. It's about $7 or so but the spread is very nice. My favorite dish is the buttermilk chicken (which I think is many other's favorite dish). They also have a nice spread of vegetarian dishes as well. They are never pack even though the lunch time deal is great, so you don't feel cramped and the service as always been quick and friendly. You won't be disappointed. more

Good experience 8/13/2005

My wife and I have travelled to India, and we also eat out at Indian restaurants quite frequently, so we consider ourselves to have some level of expertise when it comes to Indian food. When it comes to excellent lunch buffets, we highly recommend Kalia Indian Cuisine. Their Sunday buffet has a variety of excellent dishes, including channa masala, lenti stew, and tasty goat meat. The availability of tasty desserts such as mango custard and the requisite Kheer make a satisfying finish to a great meal. As with most Indian buffets, the price is quite affordable and the service excellent. The added bonus at Kalia is the the tv programmed to Hindi pop videos, transplanting us back to the India we so enjoyed visiting. more

Really good, reasonably priced 7/15/2005

Good food, good atmosphere, good service. Plus it's not expensive, nor is it strange or stuffy like nice Indian restaurants can be. We had a very enjoyable evening here. The waitstaff was very friendly, and the food was tasty. I'd definitely go here again. more

Good Solid Indian 10/16/2004

Good food, at a good price. The food, service, and atmosphere at this restaurant is great. A meal for one person will cost about $20 with tip. more
