Had dinner there last night and had some good food. The tuna poke in particular was excellent. But -- for the price it's just a 7. I expected more.

We were excited by the prospect of experiencing Flying Fish after hearing a positive review by a fellow passenger (native of Seattle) on our flight from NYC. The service was pleasant enough, as it tends to be in this rainy City. And we got a seat after 20 minutes wait, when told it was a 10 minute wait (no big surprise) on the Sunday before Memorial Day. But the food was just not up to snuff. The baby spinach salad my wife ordered consisted of overly mature spinach leaves. My lobster bisque was just too busy with too many flavors competing for my attention. Then my main dish, scallops with risotto, arrived. There were only three paltry scallops and the risotto tasted more like brown rice. The kitchen staff definitely needs to be upgraded. I was very disappointed at what turned out to be an expensive average meal.
Pros: Nice Staff, Pleasant atmosphere
Cons: , Expensive

This place has been around for ten years plus and it's easy to see why. Fresh seafood with some of the most innovative preparation in Seattle, great bar and winelist, yet friendly and unpretentious. Only complaint is that sometimes it's too loud...also, if you order the platters, you can run up a big bill quickly.
Pros: Food, Prepartion, Staff
Cons: , Can get pricey

We went to the Fish to celebrate V'Day. I had made a reservation a week ago. On V'day a lady called us from the Fish to confirm our reservation. We arrived for our 7.30 reservation an hour early and popped in just to see if they could seat us early. The front desk "Lady" was rude and told us we do not have a res implying that we were crashing. We were flabbergasted by the way she was interrogating us like a cop,as to the time of the call etc....soon our magical night was turning sour...FInally a second female at the desk decided that there was a seat for us and asked the "lady" to seat us... she lead us to our table without a word scowling and shaking her head...
However the night was saved by a great Waiter with a wonderful sense of humor...

We've gone there sporadically a couple times this year (including New Year's eve last year) and the service and food has always been great. I don't find the food to be overspiced- and the tuna poke (contrary to what the previous poster said) is actually lightly flavored with sesame oil... not overpowering and very fresh. The staff has been knowledgable and friendly... It's hard to find a place this consistant.
Pros: Great food, Great service, Good wine list
Cons: Reserve in advance, A bit loud downstairs

The scene was hopping and I liked the mix of ages. But for me the food could have been better. Two starters, the tuna poke (which I could only eat two bites) and endive salad were just passable. My entre of sole was good with and excellent side of squash, but was too heavy for me to finish which is not my norm. My husbands swordfish was just okay. I really want to like this restaurant and all the great press it gets, but it never lives up to its reputation in my eyes.
Pros: the scene, age mixture
Cons: the wait, hit or miss food

Fabulous fish. Simply good, fresh starting ingredients with little overuse of showy sauces or techniques make this spot consistantly good. The boxed shape of the dining space, flat walls, and street-open front make the noise level irritating but if you go earlier before much of a crowd you can actually hear your conversation.
Pros: consistant quality, simple flavors, downtown location
Cons: wait lines, noise

Pros: Great food, Great ambiance, Great service

The Flying fish is a lively restaurant that consistently serves up good but not exceptional sea food. I've tried many of the other Seattle seafood restaurants and flying fish is better than many - although often the best seafood in Seattle is found in non seafood restaurants. The portions are small (although the platters are good for sharing) and the scene is very much a 'hip' belltown scene with service attitude etc that go with it. The prices are relatively high and food or atmosphere don't come close to Vancouver seafood notables such as the 'C' (although nothing else I've tried in Seattle does)
Pros: good food, late night, lively atmosphere
Cons: portions, good not superb food
