Eaten there twice so far. Food was good, but both times they forgot the drinks I had ordered. The second time, they brought our drinks after we were halfway done with our meal. Then when we were done, they took our plates away and we waited probably 30 minutes for our check. It was in the late afternoon, so they were not busy very busy at all.

This Greek restaurant is conveniently located right in the heart of Fremont, at Fremont Ave and 34th. It’s a decently sized space, with part of the seating on an elevated platform and a part along a balcony, so you could easily see it become the scene of a crazy Greek wedding. On a weeknight, though, it was fairly empty, with just a few diners. The food is reasonably priced (so good for a casual dinner) and it was quite tasty. However, I would not recommend it is you’re super health-conscious as they don’t seem to economize on oil when cooking. Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but I’ve eaten some of the similar dishes in Greece and Cyprus (both at home and in restaurants), and they were made with less grease.

Costas is located right smack of the middle in Fremont. The exterior is a bit dingy, and you'd never think that inside was a spacious well decorated interior , with nice, but somewhat tacky Greek memorabilia. I tried the Lamb Souvlaki which was quite good. The lamb pieces were succulent and tasty and not too fatty. Costas is definitely worth checking out when you want a change from the Thai-dominated eating district.

As much as I love 'mediterranean' cooking, I don't often think of Greek restaurants when I'm looking for a place to eat (Italian and Spanish usually win the race). But whenever I sit down to a great Greek salad, or a well-prepared Moussaka (or - best of all - a buttery, flaky wedge of baklava), I'm reminded that there's a whole family of great food that I'm missing out on.
So when I do remember to go Greek, I head to Costas Opa, on the corner of 34th and Fremont Ave. in Fremont. They've been there forever, and it's not a fancy place by any means. But for good, solid Greek food, well-prepared, and served in a friendly atmosphere, it can't be beat. Next time you're craving a little taste of the eastern Med, give Costas Opa a try - you won't be disappointed.
