I have never seen the old location that La Spiga was in, but the new space is absolutely gorgeous. Extensive modern woodwork through out, warehouse height ceilings, and multiple open levels make for a very impressive interior.
The food was quite tasty. I had a beef fillet drizzled with white truffle oil atop yukon mashed potatoes - very, very good.
There were a few service slip ups here and there, but none that really deteriorated the experience.
I'd highly recommend La Spiga.

I was one of the first customers when they were on Broadway...I reveled when they had communal seating! The owners were always nice, the food always unbelievable!
The new location, although great ideas and love the more space...I was so disappointed with the food and service that I almost cried. The place had lost its soul. When we asked for a wine by the glass list, the waiter told us that they must have not given it to us, then tried to tell us of the wines by memory, barely pronouncing sangiovese...Half a pour later,I asked what the soup was...he said ...looking to the sky as if it were written there..."umm its a minestrone (again barely pronouncing that) and spinach. I told him "I would like the piadina with sausage and then we'll decide..." Before the app got there, he came and asked us if we were ready..uh ok..we'll have lasagna and the a soup and arugula salad. What felt like 2 minutes later, our app came...ALONG WITH the soup and lasagna. WHAT THE @@##!!?? So we had to hurry and eat the appetizer so the food wouldn't get cold...oh but the lasagna was already cold, so we sent it back to reheat. THE knock-out punch was the "arugula salad with frisee and radicchio" it came with ($10!!) green lettuce...absolutely NO arugula...not even one stalk of frissee and maybe some radicchio! I was so upset...this place used to be the BOMB! I WILL NEVER EVER COME BACK THERE....they need to hire the people that love food again. I would rather it stay in a gross shopping center and have its soul back. I love you Sachia, but you lost me.

I just ate at the new location at 1429 12th Ave. It is beautiful, hip, darker and less family style. But the food remains outstanding, with more variety. Had excellent eggplant, endive, and of course the tagliatelle was superb. It may not be better but it is certainly different. Service was good, wines by the glass were reasonable and tasty, lots of seating choices and good "energy".

I like the new place a lot, but I personally preferred the charm of the older one.
Edit - Just wrote a much more complete review on my blog: http://cucina.wordpress.com/2007/01/28/review-la-spiga-seattle

Seattle is not a mecca for good Italian food, let's face it. In fact, the pickin's are slim as some would say. La Spiga is one of the exceptions. They make their own pasta from scratch and it shows. Great fresh seasonal choices, like the asparagus ravioli with a light lemon-infused sauce or caprese salad with whatever tomatoes are best at the time. Delicious. My favorite is spinach lasagna with meat sauce and bechamel. It is not as hearty and heavy-handed as it sounds, trust me. The menu is small and the portions are just right. It's not cheap food, which also depends on what you consider expenisve, but we've paid a similar price for considerably less tasty food elsewhere so I think it's worth every penny. Great wines and great "house" wines too. I hear they are moving to a new cool space on 12th Avenue E. and Pike, with a huge open kitchen. It will be interesting to watch if prices go up due to the new hipster locale, and I'm sure it can only help them to get away from the current place tucked under the QFC! Note, for those of you like me who like to take their kids out to dine, there is only one high chair for the whole place and they don't really do sides for kids (or anyone, really).

Closest I've ever come to a trip to Bologna. Many authentic regional dishes like the Piadina, pastas, grilled sausage.

This is on the top 5 places to go list in Seattle. The best part is, the prices are super reasonable and the quality and authenticity (Emilia Romagna) are consistently great. Beware, there will be a long wait if you do not make reservations (almost every night). For those on a snug budget, Thursday evenings are prix fixe - for $28 you get a 3 to 4 course meal. We have brought bottles from home but there's no need - the wine list is great. If you haven't been, try the traditional Ragu and the Piadina (any flavor). We have been told they are moving locations and will be relocating to the super hip 12th ave next to Retro - this may actually help with parking and the current seating shortage. I just hope it doesn't go downhill like so many other restaurants that moved locations i.e. Wild Ginger...

I have walked by this place so many times and never thought to try it out. But last night we did. It was great. The decor isn't the best but the food was really good. They have a small menu and the portions are very good sized so you don't feel like you roll out of the restaurant. They server only beer and wine and their wine selection is great. They make their own pasta and served al dente. I had their spinach salad as their appetizer which was great and then I had a past dish with duck and it was really good. I highly recommend this little place.

If you want to take your loved one to a nice restaurant in Seattle I strongly suggest Osteria La Spiga on Capitol Hill! It is a small neighborhood restaurant with very original Italian food.
To make sure they have a table for you - reservations are a good idea! At least a couple of days ahead of time. If you are aiming for a Friday or Saturday you might want to call a week ahead!!!
As for dishes I'd recommend anything with duck in it, utterly superb eating!!!
If Italian isn't your thing, you may want to try XO Bistro, a French restaurant on 10th Ave E (also on Capitol Hill)!
They have very nice Prix Fixe menus with 3-course dinners now and again!
Again, the Duck Confit is excellent!

Fairly rustic/authentic Italian experience. Recently it got a little more experience and their portiol got smaller. The piadina is definitely something you need to try.
