Consistently good food, enjoyable atmosphere. Nice location near Pike Place Market. Service is usually good but can get slow at peak times.

It's been a while since my galpal and I chose this spot for our lunch, but we snuck in an hour-plus today and had a nice time. She had the risotto, which was packed with perfectly sized veggie bits (market fresh!) and I had the grilled scallops perched atop a chilled pile of light as air potatoes whipped with Kalamata olives. It was great. The only thing that seemed disappointing was the wedge salad that paired with my friend's salad - seemed very small, but admittedly the flavor was fantastic. The food was much higher quality and the setting more comfortable than our last outing to Pink Door (although the view from there is fab).

Etta's is sort of a Seattle icon - it's at the north end of the market, across the street from Cost Plus Imports on Western Ave - definitely a great location! I've never eaten there for dinner, but I really like it for lunch. it's not as super crowded as the places that are right in the market and I think the seafood is just as good. Have the crab cakes! Prices are a bit high.

I had crab cakes, thai rolls, and coconut cake for desert. It was good ...just not great.

Went here to dinner last week with a small group and was pleasantly surprised. I usually try to avoid places that might cater to the tourist crowd but the food was pretty good, there was a nice selection of food to choose from (though focused mostly seafood).
The waitstaff were also very nice and attentive.
A possible plus might also be that you can park for free at the market (if you can find a spot).
My only whine would be that the wine selection seemed pretty sparse.

Etta's is a Tom Douglas restaurant, which to me pretty much gaurantees it's going to be good, and Etta's does not disappoint. The location is perfect for entertaining visitors to Seattle since it's right downtown by Pike's Place. The only downside to this restaurant is that it is pretty pricey. I always seem to get tables right near the door also, which definitely kills the ambience. Other than that, worth checking out.

I had a good meal with the Judy's Book gang (Andy and Chris - co-founders, Rich and Chris - co-investors) tonight. We were seated by the front door so it was a little hard to dig the ambience.
The food was good. It's - not surprisingly - a very seafood heavy menu, although there are a few good veggie and non-seafood dishes. I had a plate of side orders (beets, spinach, and cornbread pudding) - all good.
The service was great - our waitress replaced a salad for me that didn't look quite right when it came out. She was friendly throughout dinner, didn't interrupt us, but was around when we needed something.
Overall - a good, solid meal.

Actually, I have to admit that I remembered a much better Ettas than what I had. It is not that Etta's has gotten worse, it is that in the last 15 years (gosh, I'm getting old, I can actually remember Etta's opening all those many years ago), that the quality of restaurants in Seattle has just increased so much.
They have pretty much the now "standard" light northwest seafood. There is wild salmon (I didn't inquire what river), halibut and the crab cakes are the standards. They are great if you've never had them, but this is the third time I've been to a Tom Douglas http://tomdouglas.com restaurant in as many weeks, so it gets a little old to have the same cakes.
The service is great too and very friendly, but if you are looking for some adventure, I do think the menus at Dalias is more interesting and there is alse Shea Chea's which I still recommend as an awesome spot. Also up the street is Campagnes, although I like the lighter fare of Cafe Campagnes.
Finally, the after evening thing if you aren't there with Chris and Andy, the Judy's Book founders, or with Brad (http://feld.com) is to take in the view and then have a desert at Cafe Dilletente up the way a bit.

I was told to go here for an excellent brunch and was not disappointed. My breakfast of eggs benedict with spinach and Dungeness crab could have gone terribly wrong, but it was oh-so right. Etta’s is very comfortable, and the location makes it picture perfect for out of town guests.
