Part of the McMenamins chain, Dad Watson's channels the same, safe atmosphere as the rest of the chain. There is outdoor seating in summer which is really nice though the area could be bigger. The beer on tap is pretty good and very refreshing and the food served is the usual bar food-lots of sandwiches, fried food, etc. Service is not as great as it could be-indifferent would be the best word to describe it. They do have a small selection of board games for customers to use. Because I enjoy the beer here I will give it three stars though it really deserves two.

Dad Watson’s might just be my new favorite place in Fremont. The atmosphere is dark and cozy. We sat near the back where the secluded, wood paneled booths and eclectic décor reminded me of the kind of old-fashioned restaurants my family used to take me to back in New England. The brews are very tasty (girls, try the Ruby ale) and the dinner menu is great. I had the halibut and chips, which are now my second favorite in town (only because the price is slightly inflated compared to my top pick, Chinook’s).

Directly across the street from another pub, the Dubliner, Dad Watson’s is a lot more upscale. Where the Dubliner attracts the beer-and-pool crowd, Dad Watson’s (technically a brew pub that’s part of the McMenamin’s chain) is actually a great place for dinner. They serve traditional bar fare with a Seattle touch to it. The burgers are hormone free, and the menu includes sandwiches and pastas as well. Our party of three was quite happy with all of the food (especially the Manhattan chowder), and with the laid-back but nice atmosphere.

They brew their own beer and also operate their own distillery (both offsite). This alone makes Dad Watson's a unique destination. They excel at bar food (it is a bar) and probably feature one of the better bar menus of the Fremont bars. Their hummus is handmashed (very good), and their burgers are also strong. My wife had a hot pear brandy based drink that is every husband's dream.

We go to Dad Watsons about once a month for lunch, whenever we are craving bar food. The food is pretty good, I enjoy the Mac and Cheese. The stuffed burger is usually pretty good too, but a little on the expensive side. Whenever it's an option with my meal, I go with the tater tots. It's in Fremont, so the parking can be a bit tough at times. It's never too crowded for lunch, and the service is good. Overall the experience is not great, and not bad, it just gets the job done.
