Gordon Biersch surprised me all 3 times I've been there. It has a really wide selection of food, which is great for vegetarians like myself (check out the hummus salad). My husband loved his steak there as well, in addition to the usual burgers etc. It also has quite a bit of seating, so they get you in really fast, even if you have more than 4 people, which is rare for downtown. Add to that great beer, nice servers and proximity to the downtown movie theaters and you've got a winner.

This place offers great atmosphere, food and drinks. Whether you're in there alone with company, you'll be impressed by the great energy in the place because the staff is incredibly friendly. They carry all sorts of beers, national and imported, and make delicious food - from simple cheeseburgers to exotic hummus plates. The location is great, average prices for Seattle pubs. They are now smoke-free until 9pm.

I first discovered this place when I went for a beer after work with a friend- that was three years ago and this is still my favorite place to eat on California Ave. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The food is simple and delicious, whether you want a nice big salad or a juicy burger. The best fries in Seattle! Really, there is no other place like it- casual, inexpensive, and wonderful. Check it out! Great beer, great folks, great food- what more could you ask for!?

Dad Watson’s might just be my new favorite place in Fremont. The atmosphere is dark and cozy. We sat near the back where the secluded, wood paneled booths and eclectic décor reminded me of the kind of old-fashioned restaurants my family used to take me to back in New England. The brews are very tasty (girls, try the Ruby ale) and the dinner menu is great. I had the halibut and chips, which are now my second favorite in town (only because the price is slightly inflated compared to my top pick, Chinook’s).

I recently visited the Elysian and was impressed first off by the wide variety of vegan and vegetarian food items. Yes, it's located on Capitol Hill, but nevertheless, I have never visited a brewpub with such a selection for non-omnivores. I was further impressed by the prices and selection of the alcoholic beverages. My friend was quite pleased with his two different Belgian beers, and my Framboise was the best beer I've ever had (possibly because it tastes almost nothing like beer, more like sweet raspberry alcohol). I had a squash soup which was hearty and creamy (but creamless) and came with some tasty crusty bread. I strongly recommend this place!

It is unlikely you're going to walk to Hale's, which is unfortunate because their beer is very good. Set up in the new-traditional brewpub style, you're surrounded by big vats that are working on producing the beer that flows from the taps.
Their food is really good as well. It ranges from traditional bar fare to more upscale dishes. In addition to being a great place to go with a small group, I've also seen large groups there (weddings, etc.).

This comfortable pub is in a building just a few years old, but it has all the charm of an old alehouse. The high ceilings and the dark wood decor make for a very nice atmosphere. There's even a bartender who speaks with a genuine Irish accent. They have a nice selection of beers on tap; I highly recommend the Smithwicks (dark and smooth, not too bitter). The menu features typical Irish pub fare; good reliable comfort food, well prepared and reasonably priced. The Shepherd's Pie is very good, but the Golden Buck is definitely an acquired taste.

Big Time brewery seems to get a brisk business after evening church services on Sunday. And I’m not criticizing. I try to make a regular habit of joining friends after my Protestant worship in the U-district for their thrifty Sunday special—any large pizza ($15.99?) and pitcher of their craft-brewed beer for ONE DOLLAR. Let His grace shine upon all that is good (I’ve particularly enjoyed the fresh, malty Blonde Ale on recent summer nights).

Don't go to the Pyramid because you want a 5 star dining experience, go because it's a glorious summer evening in Seattle and you feel like kicking back with a good beer and some delicious pub grub. They have excellent beer battered fish and chips and yummy french fries with the skins on. I second the recommendation of the apricot ale, though just uttering the words makes my husband shudder.
Beware: This place is a zoo on Mariner's game nights!

This is a great place to go for an amazing burger and fries. The burgers here are not too dry and huge! I used to live in Oregon and went to all the McMenamin Pubs there. This is also a great place to get a beer and chill out. The decor is amazing with murals all over the walls. Even at its busiest times people seem to have a quiet calmness about them adding to the relaxed mood. I usually go here on Friday nights when my work week has been extremely harsh.
