I have had two children move through this program and now their infant cousin is there. It is a great place. My children have a sound background in Spanish which is critical to their future. They were both more than ready to succeed in school, both academically and socially. Their teachers have commented on how well they handle conflict. Perhaps most amazingly, in a total of nearly 10 years of childcare (5 years x 2), my children only missed 5 days due to illness - that's total, not each. Ask other parents with kids in daycare--this is unheard of!..This is a clean, healthy place...even if it is under Jiffy Lube!

this maternity store is the little sister of pea in the pod and much cheaper. located in westlake mall they have the full gamut of clothes plus very comfy nursing (and regular) bras. all the basics like camisoles and undies plus a wide range of casual, dressy and work clothes. a little strict on their return policy so make sure you take exchanges or returns (like gifts) in quickly

I wish there were wading pools on the Eastside like this! Our favorite is Wallingford but we haven't checked out very many. My son loves that he can get in as deep as he wants. There is a gradual slope on one end and the deeper part is sectioned off by stone columns that are fun to maneuver across too. There are benches and a nice grassy slope to sit on. The pool area is recessed from the street so you don't have to walk far and you don't have to worry about little ones running off.
A word of caution- Keep a good eye on the little ones even in shallow water. When my son was 14 months old he fell in water that was probably knee high and didn't know yet to stand back up. He was squatting with his hands and feet touching the bottom of the pool and his face in the water. Luckily I was standing right there with him but it was scary to see how kids can drown in shallow water.
I agree with the other poster that it would be nice if they opened the pool earlier!

Unlike the previous reviewer, my kids DO attend this school and I believe it to be the best school ever. We have a very bright child who was bored at the local catholic school and a child with significant learning delays. Both children are THRIVING. The education is exceptionally child-centered--math, english, and science learnings have been remarkable. We have found this school to be nothing less than flexible, loving and supportive. Can't recommend highly enough!

I had a really wonderful experience with my doula, Alissa Wehrman. Her site is
http://sunbirth.org/. She has a calm, quiet demeanor. She is a careful
listener and observer, and she is very intuitive. From discussions with us
before the birth, from observing me during labor, and I'm sure from her previous
experiences, she undertood well what I needed. She seemed to know when to talk
to me and how, and when to be silently present. At times I felt her presense
and support and at times I forgot she was there, and either way it was what I
needed at that point. The one time she was a little off it was very minor - I
wanted a steady pressing hand on my back, rather than being rubbed - and she
adapted smoothly.
She also takes photos during labor and birth with your camera.
I used her post-partum services, too, and found her very helpful with a variety
of things, from bringing me breakfast and doing dishes to helping me learn how
to nurse while side-lying.
Alissa was my friend's doula as well, and she and her husband are very different
from us in style and temperment. While my husband wanted to be very present and
involved, my friend's wanted to be hands-off and let the women run the show.
While I like connection and want to be touched, my friend would be the first to
tell you that she's a little cool, and not at all "touchy-feely". Still, they
also had an excellent experience with her.
Our birth was at a birth center, our friend's was at UW hospital with a midwife,
and I know she's done home births and hospital births with OBs as well.
Good luck in your search

i've become a big fan of the gymboree play classes offered at sandpoint/magnuson park. and even though i'm frustrated that my daughter is crawling out of her crib before she is 2 years old, she is doing it perfectly without a single thud or bang and she has stuck the landing every time. all of these skills i attribute to the time she has spent at gymboree classes climbing, jumping, balancing, falling, bouncing, rolling, sliding, swinging, hanging and having fun. most of the classes are in the mornings with some evening and weekend classes as well. they last 45 minutes and have some elements that repeat from week to week like song and bubble time. kids love hearing the bells to come to the circle for bubbles and seem to really love the anticipation. music and art classes are offered here as well. for the summer they are offering a 2 for the price of 1 deal where your child can either take 2 classes (eg. one play and one art) a week or you can enroll 2 siblings.

When I was searching for full-time childcare for my infant, I debated using a center versus a family daycare home. There are obviously pros and cons to both. A friend recommended this daycare that she herself uses for her 2 kids. This provider has been licensed for over 10 years, has 2 school age kids of her own. Her "assistant" is her husband, so they are licensed for 12 children, full-time but they are not at full enrollment. My son is the youngest child there, at ten months old. They are allowed to have 2 infants full-time. The communication has been good, which is important for all daycare, but especially infant care and they have been accommodating to my work schedule which can fluctuate (part of the year I need to drop off earlier than they traditionally open). The prices are competitive for the area.

RECENTLY CLOSED.
Fully spanish bilingual teacher has seventeen years of experience and runs an extremely smooth and happy school. There is one teacher's assistant (also native spanish speaker) who has been there for over three years. Consistent, loving and there is a perfect balance between skill development and free play. Families typically stay until kids are ready for kindergarten and there is low turn-over (they do not advertise and are usually full due to parent word-of-mouth).
The only problem (we very recently discovered) is that tuition rates are not published and may change on a whim (without people knowing). I believe they are now posting their fees for consistency.
Lots of rave reviews from parents over the years.

We’ve sent both of our children to The Cottage School for preschool for the year before Kindergarten. Roxanne and Heather are both kind, gentle, understanding teachers who give their all to the kids. Classes are limited to 15 kids. We sent our kids Monday Wednesday and Friday from 9 til 2. Some kids go daily, some Tuesday and Thursday. They are flexible and will work with your schedule to accommodate your needs. Tuition was very reasonable.
