I recently had a procedure completed by Dr. Downey at the North Seattle Day Surgery Center and wanted to share some feedback considering there was not much to find prior to my own surgery. I should first say that I spent some time researching cosmetic surgeons in the greater Northwest and Dr. Downey came highly recommended by his own peers in the medical field. Dr. Downey by far showed the utmost respect, professionalism and care throughout my visits prior and post surgery. The staff members that I had contact with during my stay at the North Seattle Day Surgery facility also exceeded my expectations by providing a great deal of care and comfort before, during and after surgery. I could not have asked for a more positive, supportive, and enjoyable experience under the circumstances.

I don't want to be negative, and I had to think about my motives for writing this, but I truly want to stop someone from having to have surgery twice, which is the situation I am in. I had Dr. Burnett "fix" my nose, last year. I explained to her what I didn't like (the result of an accident when I was a child), and she pointed out other things that she didn't like. Although I initially took that as being "thorough," she only fixed the things that bothered her, and left the parts that bothered me completely untouched. I would up liking my nose even LESS than before - at least before it was proportionate. (I've had friends and family admit to me that they think it looks worse now than it did before.) At the time she admitted that she hadn't gotten to everything, but said that we could re-do it once the healing was complete. Later, however, although she acknowledged that she wasn't happy with how it turned out, she was not willing to fix it. She wouldn't even discuss it. As a result I had to go to another doctor, pay again, have surgery again. I left feeling not only unhappy with her work, but utterly dismissed as a patient. I would NOT recommend her to anyone I know - or that I don't know. In retrospect, I highly recommend that you work only with surgeons who are board certified - and board certified in their specialty, not general surgery. This is not required in Washington state, but, retrospectively, it goes without saying. Look closely at their credentials and ask specifically about their board certifications. In WA it is legal to declare a specialty, regardless of board certification. But the boards are one way to ensure that your doctor has passed an extremely rigorous standard of tests that include everything from the science, the skills and the psychology - it matters, more than you may think.
