Apothecary around the corner 8/17/2005

The Kelley Ross pharmacy on Olive is a picture of the old school apothecary. They even still grind drugs themselves. You can get a combination pill at Kelley Ross that you can't get at Safeway or CVS, or even Bartells. While they don't have some of the things you'll find at larger chain drug stores (no photo developing, no laundry detergent, no snacks) they do have lots of hard to find specialty health items, including special homeopathic medications, and vitamins of every type. The pharmacists actually talk to you and seem to care, so if you're curious about drug interactions or side affects, or just want some sympathy when you're sick, Kelley Ross is the best pharmacy in Seattle. While they only have two locations, and are open limited hours, Kelley Ross will deliver or mail your prescription for a small fee, but I think the advantage at Kelley Ross is in the upholding of the apothecary tradition, which separates it from chain stores. more

Personal Pharmacy 8/17/2005

The Kelley Ross pharmacy is a triumph of personal medical care over the impersonal mentality at big chains like Bartell's. From the moment you walk in, you feel as though you are being treated as a person and a patient, not as a post office customer with something to pick up. The staff is friendly, professional, and prompt (this goes for the location in the Polyclinic on Broadway as well). They take most major forms of insurance, including mine, so I cannot comment on price. If only they stayed open later! more

Prescription Pharmacy Est. 1925

Owner Message
  • In 1925, Kelley-Ross Pharmacy began in Seattle's Medical Dental Building with a partnership between A.E. Kelley and Harry Ross. The business grew under the second generation ownership of Al Kelley and Ross son-in-law, A.E. Katra to become the largest volume prescription pharmacy west of the Mississippi in the 1950s with 16 pharmacists filling over 1,000 prescriptions daily.

The pharmacy was purchased by John Oftebro in 1973 where the practice continued to grow and lead the profession in areas such as compounding, Hospice and Long Term Care pharmacy services.

Kelley-Ross was one of the first community pharmacies in the nation to provide immunizations, HIV specialty care, and Medication Therapy Management services. Today, under the ownership of pharmacists Ryan Oftebro, Ryan Hansen and Brian Beach, Kelley-Ross continues to lead the profession with innovative services and outstanding patient care.
