I've gotten my ears pierced at the mall at Piercing pagoda several times: when I was a child for my lobes, cartilage and eventually added more to my lobe. So I've had SOME type of experiences with piercings. One of my best friends got her lip pierced in high school and since then I've thought it was really cool, but always wondered about the pain. She went to Top Tattoo in Shoreline/edmonds area and said it was really good and clean. I ended up going to Deep Roots from rumors that it had been a great shop. I finally decided to get my lip pierced and Deep Roots on the AVE seemed to call out to me. I go to the UW so I've walked by about a trillion times and have peeped in to ask questions. Walking in was an experience in itself; the lobby looked like a gallery. The jewelry was nicely displayed in cases and it was well lit (which is a personal thing of mine--liking well lit places). The two people at the counter were very welcoming and my piercer whose name was Nicole (like mine w/o the 'h') was very very friendly! Highly recommend her service! I was pretty nervous at first and hard time deciding on jewelry. In the midst of my first jewel being sterilized I changed my mind. Graciously she said to me "Honey that's fine! This is going to be on your face and I want you to be happy with it!" Right then and there I knew I'd come to the right place. From the cleanliness of the parlor itself, the cleanliness of the utensils used, the cleanliness of the piercing artist, and to the great customer service .. It was AWESOME! The piercing itself didn't hurt more than a mere pinch. I personally believe that this is the best piercing parlor in Seattle.

I wanted my first piercing to be at a clean shop. I knew that i wasn't going to be get the best services because i don't have any tattoos or any piercings. I just wanted a nice clean shop where i felt safe know they were clean. I walked into deep roots and the lobby set my mind at ease. The shop has a wide open lobby with jewelry on display. I was suprized to get nice customer service from the guy behind the counter. The piercer who did genital piercings wasn't in that day so i had to come back when he was in. Bummer. The day of the piercing Tom my piercer had the girl behind the counter fill out all my info and made me sign the agreement. He walked me back to the room and started setting up the stuff. He put on rubber gloves and a face mask. He had me lay down on the table and said to get comfortable. He got the stuff ready. I was nervous as hell but tom explained that hes been piercing for 20 years and had at one time 10 fgenital piercings at one time so he knew what pain i was going to go thought. He mapped out where the bar bell was going to go and asked if i thought it was good. I agreed. I lied back down and he pulled the needle out. He told me to take a deep breath and breath out. One two three. It was jabbed in and done like that. The pain wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. The whole thing took less then five minutes and i was out the door. Tom told me all the aftercare stuff that i needed to do and some tips about what i shouldn't do in the next few weeks. He told me that it would take 2-3 months to heal and to take care. The whole experience was what i thought it was going to be. I will be going back to deep roots next time for my next piercing. If anyone wants a good experience for there first time and don't know where to go. This is the shop. Pros: great staff, clean shop Cons: couldn't make appts for piercings

Very clean and sterile tattoo parlor. I saw Rion for a VCH piercing and was very happy with my experience. He is very professional and easy going. I was EXTREMELY nervous and anxious. He really took the time and was understanding. The other employees at Deep Roots were great as well!! Very friendly and professional. I didn't feel outta place at all. After checking out lots of local tattoo shops, I decided to go to Deep Roots to have my first tattoo done. I could tell just from calling that they were friendly and professional, unlike a lot of other tattoo shops that make you feel like you were wrong for calling them. The shop was clean and bright, and the people there were great to help with anything. I'm not your typical tattoo shop patron, but they didn't make me feel like I was out of place or weird for not having any tattoos. They do have individual rooms, which gives it a more private feel, instead of feeling like you're on display while getting a tattoo that you'll have forever (not really something I'd want the rest of the world to watch). I did have to wait a while for my appointment, but it was worth it. Chris tattooed me, and he was great as well. I can honestly say the whole experience from beginning to end was nothing short of perfect. I had hardly any pain while it was being done, none after, no redness, and the healing process was extremely simple. From beginning to end, everything was great! Pros: clean shop, felt very comfortable and not intimidating at all Cons: Shop minimum is $60, wait time was a bit long

Even though it took a while to get my appointment at Deep Roots, just walk in the door and you'll see why it's worth it. It is open, organized, and clean up front, and then they have rooms which are even more clean and look more like a doctors office, for them to actually do your piece (in privacy). Looking at each artist there you can tell they are passionate about the job, and wear every aspect proudly. I got scarification done, Rion explained all very well and was super accomidating throughout the procedure, explaining thoroughly the answer, to every I asked. Since I arrived early I had time to look at the hundreds of piercing supplies, just about every cool ring, bar, gage, etc, that you can think of. Flipping through the tattoo books was also awesome to really see how talented these guys are. Pros: Quality and Experience Cons: Price and Time

I had my tongue pierced and also my first tattoo. I got my tongue pierced by Cole. I was really nervous and she was extremely friendly and very calm. She walked me through the entire process before actually doing it. She was extremely sanitary and I felt very safe throughout the entire process. It was quick and painless. About a month later, I accidentally bit down and broke the bar. I had class so it was about two hours before I could return to deep roots. When I did, it had already closed up. Cole re-pierced it and stretched it. It was a bit more painful but Cole did just as well the second time. Because of how well my tongue piercing went, I decided to return to deep roots for my first tattoo Just yesterday I got my first tattoo by Mark. He was extremely friendly and I saw him change his gloves several times. He did a great job on my friend and I. I got a white tattoo and not many people do them. He knew what he was going, was extremely confident. Although the prices for both the tattoo and the piercing was a bit higher than other places, I definitely don't mind paying for quality. I would definitely recommend Mark, Cole, and Deep Roots for everyone. Pros: Location, friendliness, skill Cons: None

I've wanted my nose pierced for years and finally decided to do it, a couple of weeks ago. Last summer when I was originally planning to do this, I was going to go to the shop on Broadway, but when I read the reviews online a few days ago, there were way too many complaints about bad service and crappy attitude, so I went on the search again. After a brief search I found Deep Roots and they had so many great reviews that I decided to go there instead. I called in advance and asked a bunch of questions (very friendly & patient phone service) and then I went in this Saturday to do the deed. I have to admit I'm a huge chicken when it comes to pain and I was really nervous about getting it done. Cole was my piercer and she was not only very nice but also took plenty of time with me to make sure that everything was just where I'd want it before she did the actual piercing. (On a completely unrelated note, she also had a gorgeous all-white tattoo on her forearm. I've never seen an all-white tattoo before and it was definitely cool.) The piercing is perfect and just what I wanted. The place was really clean and had a wide range of beautiful jewelry for all kinds of piercings, and most importantly for me, the service was great. If I were planning to get any further piercings (so not) I'd definitely go there again and would absolutely recommend it to others looking for a great shop with really good service. Pros: good service, great work, clean shop Cons: parking could potentially be tough

Deep Roots is a fantastic place to get body mods done. I've only gotten one piercing there so far but it was a good experience. Although the place was exceptionally busy at the time of my visit I still got top notch service when my time came. I was pierced by Ruben. He made me feel very comfortable and didnt talk down to me as some piercers do. I would defiantly get work done there again. It is very sanitary and the workers take great care to make sure it stays that way. Be careful not to touch your piercings while in the shop! Pros: Sanitary environment, knowledgable employees, Good jewlery variety Cons: Parking.

This place has, as mentioned before by pleased customers, impeccable sanitation measures. It is very open, bright, and organized to avoid any clutter. The staff: I've seen MARK for a tattoo (amazing job, awesome price) & I plan on having him do my next one. He was kind of rude at first and didn't seem that excited about it, but after we talked for a few minutes we both relaxed and I ended up w/ a gorgeous piece of art. He made me feel very comfortable, and he didn't mind that my boyfriend sat in on the session (a place in Wallingford said that if I had a tattoo done there, no one else could be in the room-- that gave me the heebie jeebies). COLE is by far my favorite person at Deep Roots. I absolutely love the way she walks the customer through each of the steps; she is very zen about the whole process, and it really makes me feel good about having her do my piercings. After I had a piercing (done at a place in Portland), go awry she was very helpful and knew exactly what I needed to do. She has also helped me with the lobe stretching process. RYAN (the owner, I think) is a very cool guy... pretty overthetop about the not touching piercings policy, so don't touch them! The staff will hand you a sani-wipe and ask you not to touch any piercings. Anyway, I would rather be asked to not touch than walk away with infections. He has only done one piercing for me, but it turned out wonderfully. All the other folks there: fun to talk to, they make the atmosphere upbeat & exciting, etc. PRICE: One cannot expect to have a healthy, good-looking piercing for $10-- if you want quality, you will have to pay for it. The prices here are about what I would expect of a clean, well-established shop with beautiful jewelry. Mark quoted my tattoo at about $100 & when he finished he decided to only charge me $70. JEWELRY: Deep Roots has a HUGE selection. Everything that you could even possibly think about wanting-- they have it. all-in-all: 5 stars. Pros: knowledge of product, talented staff Cons: somwhat intimidating
