Christian Dardonville is a one of a kind antique restorer and furniture builder. First of all, I called him for an estimate on the repair of an antique my father had given me, and he came the next day! I had had two other bids from other restorers in town, and his was the lowest. Frankly, he did a marvelous job. I was amazed at the way he was able to match the existing color. His repairs are invisible! Last but not least, he has a charming French accent...

I had a custom storage/entertainment center built for my basement--I had a pretty good idea what I wanted, but Wally at Pioneer really helped refine the design and thought of many things I had forgotten. He is extremely detail oriented, and he produced the cabinet exactly according to the original schedule he gave me. Pioneer is right around the corner from me, and I feel lucky to have a quality business like this one in the neighborhood.

Artech is the best place in town for framing, art handling and other services. It's pretty much the only place that offers such a high level of quality, not just in Seattle, or even in Washington, they're one of the best in the nation. Really. They're passionate and they hire local artists.

What a great service Kenny the Bicycle Doctor provides. I wanted to have my bike tuned up, but didn't really want to haul it in the trunk of my Civic, so I emailed the Bicycle Doctor, and we made an appointment for him to come right to my house and made my bike hum. The tune-up took about an hour. It was really convenient, reasonably priced, and very professional. I'd use their services again in a second.

Home of the earn a bike program: a program that teaches neighborhood kids how to fix bicycles, and then coaches them as they put in hours fixing bikes in exchange for a bike of their own. That alone is a cool enough feature to make me want to take my business there.
My experience has been limited to tune-ups and the occational small fix with these guys, and I have nothing but good things to say. They were extremly friendly, did a really good job, and were quite reasonably priced.
Awesome.

Everybody who works here seems to know what they're talking about, at least when it comes to bikes (I got completely different explanations from two different people on why helmet prices have such a wide range). The Cannondale I ordered took over a month to arrive, but they're a small shop and probably can't afford to store a ton of unordered bikes, plus the Cannondale factory was supposedly slow, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. They a small but reasonable selection of most any biking accessory you could need.

Big bicycle stores what to move inventory off their sales floor even if means selling one that doesn't really fit the rider all that well. If you're going to spend a lot of time on your bike it *must* fit correctly. Il Vecchio is a small, custom shop. You'll spend more money but you'll end up with a bike that is made exactly to your unique specifications.

There a locally owned store called Tiempo in Capitol Hill that's really cool. It's on 14th right where Madison and Pike meet (14th and Pike).
All they have are time pieces: watches, clocks, pocket watches, etc... I bought a clock there once. They have some really funky stuff there. It's worth a look and the prices are the same as dept. stores like REI and Nordstrom's.

More
The name "Perfect Wheels" comes from the owner's philosophy that hand built wheels are superior to machined wheels, in terms of performance and durability and ride quality.
Larry, the owner and (I suppose only) mechanic and shop keeper, provides personal repair, fitting, and builds.
The shop is small, and there isn't much in the way of accessories or apparel. However, there are a variety of bicycles on the wall and in the window, which incorporate a wide range of options for different riders. The builds are targeted to commuters, touring, casual and performance-minded riders.
If you buy a bicycle (or just a wheel), everything is customized by you, and built by Larry, the owner.
