Dr. Barbier is very competent and professional. She may come off as too clinical or impersonal, but I actually don't mind that. I'm not one to want to "love" my health care practitioner. I'm more concerned with how competent she is and that I feel comfortable with her judgments. She did a surgical procedure on me and I was very satisfied with my experience with her.

Dr. Blackham is absolutely terrific! He was willing to submit to my very scrutinizing interview and answer all my questions. I worked in health care for 11 years and had had an extremely bad vaginal delivery the first time, which required a c-section for the second time around. So, I grilled him with questions and had several things I wanted to have a say in that are not "standard" procedures during pregnancy and c-sections delivery. Dr. Blackham was completely respectful of my medical knowledge and personal wishes derived from experience. I had interviewed other OB's who were extremely offended by my candor and desire to be a "partner" in my health care. Dr. Blackham was completely the opposite. He went to work doing all he could to facilitate my wishes (none that would compromise my or our baby's health, of course!). He was also willing to research a little used treatment for my pregnancy condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which I could not get other OB's to even look at. We tried the treatment with a conservative approach and it saved me from being hospitalized and spending my entire pregnancy just trying to survive (literally!). It saved my family from not having a mom (functionally anyway, as I was a lump on the floor on IV's and home health care). His office is small and not fancy, but comfortable and puts me at ease. I love the fact that he is not rushing patients through and cares about your comfort and modesty as a woman. His wife sews "moo-moo's" and real cloth cover-ups so you don't have to fight paper gowns, feel exposed to the world and cold. His receptionists have been wonderful to me. Dr. Blackham called me back on nights and weekends when I was so sick (before the treatment could be used) and has never made me feel rushed or like I was disturbing him. He is the perfect combination of extremely professional and knowledgeable along with being truly caring, respectful, and willing to "think outside the box" to provide excellent care for his patients. Dr. Blackham is the best!

Dr. Cole's been my doctor for over a year. Besides typical ob/gyn stuff, like annual exams and related prescriptions, she's also been a great resource for other medical issues. I had a crazy bout of strep throat this year that she addressed (and directed me toward a great ENT doctor when it was clear that my tonsils needed more care than she should be giving). She's also very easy to talk to, takes notes when she's reviewing your file, and answers any and all questions candidly and openly. I feel like she really listens and I really appreciate that she's very straightforward about her suggestions without being condescending.
Her office is generally friendly and efficient - usually pretty easy to get an appointment. Parking is not bad - using the Swedish garage is $2 for an hour and my last appointment only took 45 min.

My OB was not on call the night I went into labor, so Dr. Hannon delivered. I actually came away from the experience wishing she'd been my OB the whole way through the pregnancy! She ROCKS. She has great energy, seems to really care, was never patronizing or dismissive, was very encouraging throughout my labor and delivery and was of course very skilled. I felt so safe in her care. And I genuinely liked her as a person too. She was funny and frank and hip. She kept commenting on how she liked the music I brought with me, so I'm going to burn her a CD of it as a thank-you.

I'd highly recommend Dr. Margaret Hutchison of the Seattle ObGyn Group. I find her and her staff really caring and good. The number for their office is (206) 682-5800.
It's hard work to find a health care provider that you like -- one that fits with your needs and life (not to mention insurance and location and hours!).
Good luck!

OK, so Mao Constance is really in English, Connie Mao. And I admit I've been married to her forever. Still, if you are lucky you can visit with her. She's a great doc although not taking new OB/GYN patients right now.
I can say that it has been great to get to know some other great ones. On Judy's Book alone, I see in related reviews, Lori Marshall, Tracy Johnnsen (why is her name in the right order) and Briget Brock.
Connie trained with all of them and they are great. Reviews to follow

I went to the Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM group) here at Group Health for both of my sons. The same midwife caught both of my boys. When I got pregnant for the first time, it just so happened that I called the OB clinic to make a standard appointment, and thankfully, their OBs were not available, so they offered midwives (I had no idea!), and I chose them because I just needed an appointment. That one phone call changed my life and my perspective on life forever.
I have to give these midwives top-notch praise. There's a reason why these midwives and clinic are the most highly rated in Seattle, and the most long-standing hospital midwifery service in the state. 45 minute appointments, excellent caring staff, a welcoming attitude to questions (no question is ever bad), and tons of resources. I felt so reassured by these knowledgeable and competent women, even when I got scared.
They actually talk with you to make sure that all of your concerns are addressed, just like midwives are known to do (far and away making them better than most OBs, who clock in at 4 minutes per appointment).
I had two great births there, and if I had to have another hospital birth (my last was a planned, happy homebirth with a Licensed Midwife), I'd choose here. They treat you like a human with feelings and needs, treasuring birth, not a malpractice suit waiting to happen. That's why their hospital-birth stats are the healthiest and best in the state. If you choose a hospital birth, get thee to these midwives.

I have been a patient of Dr. White's since I found out I was expecting my first child, almost four years ago. During the pregancy, I was under the care of Dr. White and Maggie (nurse practitioner) and my baby was delivered by Dr. Brandon. I have also had the opportunity to get to know many of the nurses and support staff.
In my opinion the entire staff are incredibly knowledgeable, caring, and kind. Whenever I have an OB GYN related issue, I know I can trust these guys to 100%.

After my injury today, I want to work there myself!! One problem - I'm not in medicine. You see - this evening, I stepped on an old rusty nail in my front yard - looks like it'd been there since it was built 30 years ago! I couldn't pull it out or let anyone else touch the flip-flop that was nailed there, so, we went to the doctor, who then referred us to Northwest. They all seemed to be having so much fun!! They were so efficient and had me in and out quicker than I've ever been in an emergency room (okay, so I'm unlucky). Usually emergency rooms are a 3-4 hour event, even if you're loosing a limb, and I was only there for 2 total! I'll never go anywhere else...just had to rave.
