I love going to the fenix, only on the weekends though. It doesn't draw too much of a crowd during the week but on the weekend, esp. during the summer months it is alot of fun. I would have to agree that after the earthquake in 1999 it hasn't been the same. But they did a great job making it bigger and more dance floor space. You can actually get a seat since there is a ton a places to sit now. Also plenty of room to dance with two dance floors. Go when there is a good live cover band and you won't be disappointed.

I don't really know why some people hate the Fenix Underground but I actually don't mind it at all. I went there during 80s night and had a blast. I loved the open spaces of this club and not feeling like a sardine on both dance floors. I hate clubs where everyone squeezes together and where you can basically grab whatever body part you want. The band was awesome and there was a pool table on the top floor for those who hate dancing. The drinks weren't too bad either.

The Fenix Underground has been a staple in the Seattle scene for many years. After the earthquake in 1996 it was moved to it's current location in Occidental Park. Since the move it has struggled to find an identity among the clubs in the joint cover group. Sometimes goth (Moonday) sometimes techno (Fri and Sat Downstairs) and sometimes uncertain. Depending on WHEN you visit the Fenix will largely determine what kind of experience you have there. Generally they have some kind of live music upstairs on the weekends but it is very hit or miss. Most of the time you will find bands you thought long dead playing the stage (Berlin for example) or local rock acts who THINK they are the biggest thing since sliced bread but have yet to grip the reality that they are now 40 and have not made it yet. Thursdays are the highlight of the week with the weekly Bedroom Club by local starlets Burning Hearts Burlesque. This is the one night it is okay to just sit back have a drink (overpriced) and watch a true show. Most nights though, you are really gambling by walking in the door. It is a great club, well designed, very interesting interior, but is struggling to find a modern voice. Worth a visit, at least to see what it looks like to spend millions on a new club. Oh and they do have the free pool downstairs!!

In my opinion the Fenix is the best of the joint cover clubs in Pioneer Square. There is usually a live band playing up stairs for those looking for that kind of energy. Then there is also a DJ spinning all your dance favorites down stairs. If you’re not loose enough for either of those there are also about a half a dozen bars throughout the club ready to serve your favorite social lubricants.

If you are bored on a weekend and are looking for a club, the Fenix Underground is an alright spot to hit up. Its pretty much 21and over, but they have certain nights where it is 18 and over .They have a bar on the bottom level so if you are 21 and over you get a bracelet which means you can order drinks. They have a big dance floor with 2 levels and lots of outside dance floor space if you just want to conversate with other people or just chill for a while and take a little break. So if you are in a dancing mood and have nothing else to do, try out Fenix Underground and see what you think.
