Everything is expensive anymore but you cannot deny the selection of everything from imported dance remixes to mixing boards to local mix-tapes at the counter. They don't have everything but they are worth a check - usually, the reason behind not getting something is attributed to some one beating you to it. The store is frequented by so many working DJs that it can be frustrating coming in late for something. Another nice thing is that they aim for the working DJ which means lots of reissued classics, lots of compilations and remixes on vinyl. And, if you are playing the club venue down the street and your speaker cable goes bad, they have that too. The people behind the counter have worked there forever and still have the best listening booth set-up in town.
Pros: larger, current selection of vinyl and whatever new gear is needed
Cons: prices are a little high, no longer carry the cool milkcrate style record boxes

It's the DJ specialty shop that any dance music fan should be aware of. Heard it on C89, X104, or at a club? Platinum most likely has it.
The best part about the place is that everyone who works there is a working DJ - and they have people from almost every genre of music. House, breaks, techno, trance, jungle, hip-hop, downtempo, and so on is all represented.
Competitive prices -- plus a fairly good selection of equipment as well to help you progress.
Get to know the people there and find the employees that best relate to what you're doing.

Platinum Records features electronic music including house, breaks, drum and bass, and techno. This is your typical DJ record store with current releases and white labels located on the wall and everything else in shelves.
I did see some crates on the floor that feature new hip hop and experimental.
The downtempo selection is pretty small but they seem to cater towards more of the house dj.

Platinum Records is located on E Pike St, one block East of Broadway on Capitol Hill. They specialize in vinyl records, DJ equipment, and PA systems.
For vinyl records, they have of the largest selection in Seattle of Top 40, Hip Hop, and Dance. There really is no comparison, you might be able to find smaller shops that specialize in a more specific genre, but overall, I think Platinum takes the cake. Although you should be prepared to spend some time in there, as they don't have a computer inventory system, and stuff is usually grouped by labels. They also have a decent selection of underground CD's and DVD's that you would not find in a typical store.
I would personally stay away from their DJ equipment, as you can easily find the same gear for cheaper prices either online or at Guitar Center. However, I would definitely check out their PA system rentals for your next social/work events.

Lots of killer records to choose from. The the first and most important part. They seem to cover many genres of music so that one isnt limited. They also sell DJ related stuff as well(record players, needles, headphones, etc.)
The store is located in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle. So that means you're near restaurants, music stores, bars, clothing shops, etc.
PROS: location, dj support
CONS: none yet

They have it here! .. The atmosphere is right! It's a great place to network with dj's around the seattle area. If music is your love - this is the right place for you. You kinda have to dig to find the good stuff (but then again, where don't you?). Most of the time they have the new releases posted for easy access. They are really good about putting records away pretty fast after they have been listened too - so nothing is in a holding spot... I love this place!

thought this was going to have vinyl but instead it's mostly for dj's. maybe the name means if you buy their equipment you'll be making records that go platinum. Anyway, i was confused, overwhelmed, and too intimidated to ask questions. I'm sure the staff there was knowledgeable, they had to be. the store was crowded and staff were very busy helping people out. I'd recommend this store for serious dj's.

If youre DJ Platinum is a good place to shop featuring all genres of music. The clerks are all DJs and could probably point you in the right direction if youre not sure what youre looking for. They may seem intimidating esp. if youre a girl but once you ask youll find theyre ready to give you advice on products and suggest some records.

Every time I go in this store, I'm treated like crap. I'm glared at or not taken seriously, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Apparently they don't care about their business too much, I'm going to continue to do my record shopping online.
