My kids and I have this quarterly ritual. We visit the Pacific Science Center. We find that there is always something to discover and that they update their exhibits frequently, each one more interesting than the previous. Great fun place that's also educational and a nice breather from the malls.

For you quick readers:
They just moved to a new location downtown and expanded their services. Been going to them for over a year now for haircuts, and recently started getting massages there as well. The new place is super nice, staff is always extremely hospitible and they have great personalities.
Haircuts: Great haircuts for dudes, a bit more expensive then the quick haircut places but cheaper then the salons and MUCH higher quality haircuts than either. Worth every penny, I'll be here for life
Massage: Ali is F'ing amazing, she has the absolute perfect balance of pressure and comfort which makes every bit of difference in a massage. Again, a bit more expensive then the mall joints, but cheaper then the high end salons and EVERY bit as worth it.
Manscaping: I hate admitting it, but I get my eyebrows waxed every month or so. I'm lazy and don't want to pluck, so spare me the riducle. None the less my eyebrows still look like a straight man's dude brows when I leave and that REALLY says something.
Details:
So for a guy, finding a GOOD haircut is actually rather difficult. There are tons of places where you can go, get your haircut for cheap, and get a different person every time. Or you go to some super upscale salon, and pay a boat load for a slightly better haircut but still feel lacking. Well I've finally found my hair stylist for life and it's here at the Loft. As a dude you don't remember how your hair was cut last time, what style you like, what product you used, you just know if it looked good or not. Charlie, not only remembers exactly how to cut my hair every time, but he makes it look awesome every time. I know it sounds odd to say this but everytime I leave the salon I look so damn good I feel like I could hook up with any chick I wanted (though I wouldn't because I'm married now...)! I also know that if it's time to change it up, he'll tell me how I should change my hair without having to keep up with the latest trends, which is actually pretty rare.
As to product...I can't believe I'm about to talk about hair product but for the sake of the review I shall. I've tried many different hair products throughout my 29 years of life, and they all have their ups and downs. Charlie took the time to try out multiple different types, give me different samples to try out and I've finally found something that works absolutely perfect. It's easy to walk into any salon or stylist and get a reccomendation for a product that works generically for everyone. It's an entirely different matter to have someone who takes the time to find out what works best for you, try out new stuff to determine what works best and give you samples to try out.
Massage:
As above, Ali is amazing. I've had massages in many different places and have never had it as good as here. I've done the high end spa massages at nice hotels when on vacation. I've done the Gene Juarez experience, but this isn't even the same thing. It's easy to communicate exactly what i want without feeling akward or that I'm not manly enough to take it. When I pull a muscle working out she knows exactly what to massage to help it loosen up. When I just want to relax she has the perfect balance to make me wish I had more money to have massages all the time. I've had some deep tissue, sport, sweedish, and hot stone massages from her and all were equally awesome.
If you got to this point in the review you either skipped what i wrote, or are super interested so I would highly reccomend making an apointment. They are ALWAYS having specials so I would reccomend checking it out!
Pros: super friendly, fantastic services

I love that I can see an amazing big jazz name in a beautiful, classy venue for less than 20 dollars as a student. I love that Jazz Alley also goes above and beyond just jazz concerts and also includes more eclectic names as well. All the shows are top quality, and the food is pretty good as well. If you're planning on having dinner, it will set you back a little though... plan on upwards of 20-30 per person.
Students, make sure to ask about student discounts. Such an amazing deal!
Pros: Great atmosphere and great names, 1/2 price student tix
Cons: Expensive Menu

Everything from master painters, to sculptures to native folk art is on display. They have quite a good African section as well. Travelling displays mean that there's always something new to see, so what are you waiting for, come get an eyeful of art!

I was amazed by the design of the EMP, both from the inside and just looking at it from the outside. I'm not much of a music junkie, so I didn't appreciate the exhibits as much as my friends did, but the few things I did understand left me speechless. Admission, like any other famous museum, was a bit pricey, but I think everyone should go inside at least once in their life.

Rooms of modern paintings and renaissance paintings, no admission fee to get in, and the security guards aren't overzealous like MOMA or SAM. They have a rotating display of a modern painter in the front "lobbys" and their permanent work in the middle, with a room in the back for a guest traveling exhibit. Specializes in paintings, not sculptures, although they do get a few guest sculptures. Give yourself a hour and you'll do fine.

There are few places in the Seattle area where you can see dinosaur bones and have a prehistoric adventure. The Burke Museum on the University of Washington campus is just such a place. Membership is cheap though the exhibits do not rotate enough to make long term membership productive for the entire family. Their history of the region exhibit covers dinosaurs to more modern wildlife. The triceratops skull and saber tooth cat exhibit are memorable. For families with an ethnic blend of the Pacific rim, the downstairs cultural exhibits can be a good way to educate the kids about their heritage.

every sunday i go to seattle for my volunteer gig at left bank books (one great bookstore) and before i go in to the bookstore i always, always have to get a cup of coffee at Local Color. i always order the soy white choco mocha and i am always blissfully content. i've been a barista for a year so i pretty much stopped drinking coffee but Local Color revived my faith in caffeine. Great artworks too, the baristas are super-friendly even if they're always awfully busy.

The Odyssey Maritime Discovery Center is another fun and educational place to go with the entire family. Its located in a nice modern building. Parking is available in a parking garage across the street. My kids enjoyed the kayak that you get to try out by paddling through a virtual bay. They also loved the exhibit where they can climb aboard this play structure and operate a fish conveyer and pretend to be fishermen. The Odyssey is only open on Tuesdays-Saturdays.

I went here with my friend the other day and it was quite the experience. There a lot of historical asian art pieces inside and they also have a generous amount of art from different cultures. The location is pretty easy to find as it is located in the greater part of Seattle. If you like art or have yet to visit an art museum, this is the place to go.
