I have discovered new favorite artists at the Henry and even on a bad day I'll usually be more inspired and excited leaving the Henry than I would be leaving SAM. I'm especially in love with video and multimedia art and SAM has the best and most consistent selection in this area. I think I've seen Tony Ousler pieces there 3 or more times, several Gary Hill pieces, my very favorite Bill Viola and a new discovery for me Wolfgang Laib.

I like modern art. Since the Bellevue Art Museum has turned from a smart place to experience contemporary art into a craft gallery skewed at older woman, the best place to see modern art in the Henry Art Gallery at University of Washington. The work is challenging, sometimes uneven (as modern art often is) and often involves the visitor as a participant rather than just a viewer. More amusement park than museum but I kind of like that. Parking majorly sucks.

I have discovered new favorite artists at the Henry and even on a bad day I'll usually be more inspired and excited leaving the Henry than I would be leaving SAM. I'm especially in love with video and multimedia art and SAM has the best and most consistent selection in this area. I like modern art. Since the Bellevue Art Museum has turned from a smart place to experience contemporary art into a craft gallery skewed at older woman, the best place to see modern art in the Henry Art Gallery at University of Washington.
