One of my favorite yet kind of old fashioned things to do on certain weekends is go to Fremont Outdoor Cinema. You can't really find many out door cinemas out there these days, so this is one of the few in the Seattle area. Its a fun way to kick back and relax in your car as you are parked outside of a huge screen. Its a lot cheaper too because you can bring your own food with you, be as loud as you want in your car, have your cell phone on, or whatever things you can't do in an indoor cinema, you can pretty much do here. Its really fun to do especially on those hot summer nights in a drop top vehicle.

Located at the bottom of Queen Anne, Uptown Cinemas is my kind of movie theater. Shag carpet, those cool ticket windows facing the street, greasy popcorn and comfortable chairs. They play good movies and somehow, when I depart, I don't have that sinking feeling that somehow I have paid for Tom Cruise's dental work or had a part in facilitating Jennifer Lopez's continued and unwelcome presence on America's consciousness. Also, if you are careful, you can sneak in a couple of burger from Dick's, located conveniently across the street.

Big comfy seats, wine during a movie, no heads clouding your vision - Watching a movie at Big Picture is like being pampered. Plus, the daytime shows are cheaper than at the big, crammed, sticky floor theaters... And they play interesting, art house movies. The only down side is the reservation process is a little anxiety producing - you leave a message and just have to trust that they got it and that there will be space. But so far I've had no problems.

Okay, the seats are creaky, but the Egyptian is one of the few remaining movie houses with only one screen, and a very large one at that.
Also, the selection of movies is impressive, from "Amelie" to "Brokeback Mountain."
Ornate Egyptian Revival/art deco interior decor makes this a classy if funky stand-out after one has suffered through monstrosities such as the Metro theatres or the Meridian 16 (never again).
There WERE more opulent movie theaters, but they're ALL gone (the Fifth Avenue with its Beijing Temple of Heaven decor now does only stage productions of musicals; don't count the Cinerama as one, it's purely World's Fair circa 1962 in style). The closest comparison would be the Neptune, which, I'm very surprised, has not been turned in a multiplex with a honeycomb of screening rooms.
Pray AGAINST the day that the Landmark Corporation doesn't tear the whole building down and put up a 6-story condo/multi-cinema-plex. We've been awfully lucky so far.

The Landmark Seven Gables Theatre is sort of in an old house transformed into a small theater. It's located kind of by Trader Joe's in the U-district. It conveniently has a small parking lot adjacent to it, which is useful since parking can be tough in that area. It's cozy and comfy but still has all the things a larger theater would have. We recently saw Brokeback Mountain there and it was perfect. I would definitely go back. The tickets were $9 each though, which is a lot, but it typical of movie theaters these days.

I love going to indie theatres. The movie choices are more to my liking than the big chains. The concession stands usually have choices other than candy and pop. Last time I went, they had Mighty Leaf Tea (sold at Whole Foods and PCC) bags ! The seats are decent, and there is something to be said about the atmosphere of these old movie houses. Support your local indie theatres!

This discount theater is a fixture of the Admiral district of West Seattle. Once upon a time it was a really inexpensive theater too, but has slowly been introduceing rate hikes over the years that bring the average movie price to about that of a regular matinee- still a nice deal, but nothing like the true discount theaters. This theater doesn’t really have the feeling of a funky old discount movie theater, rather it feels more like a sort of run-down versian of a blockbuster type theater.
Overall this place is great, and it seems to be quite popular with the kids/teens. My experience ist that they strictkly mind the movie ratings and carefully restrict access to movies that somebody is not old enough for.
It’s hard to complain about a discount theater, even if it is only a couple of bucks cheaper than a regular one.

I have only been to this theatre one time and it was a bad visit. This theatre has not heard of accesable features....My friend was with me in a wheelchair and the bathrooms were upstairs.
We decided we would not go there again unless they do some improvements
