Its the old "Women's Club" of Seattle from 100 years ago, and the building is holding up quite well for having shown thousands of reels since opening in the 80's. Great runs of hard-to-find independent film and a key participant in the annual Seattle International Film Festival. Even the popcorn is air-popped, so its as healthy for you as it is tasty.

This theater is part of the Landmark chain and always has good movies showing, including art films, foreign films, and independent films. It also has an interesting history with the Women's Suffrage movement. It is conveniently located in the Capital Hill area near a lot of restaurants and bars, which makes a nice night out.

The Harvard Exit Theater is on the corner of Roy and Broadway - right where 10th becomes Broadway - in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Parking can be difficult as there is no parking lot and all patrons must park on the street. Still, the theater is worth whatever hardships you might endure while looking for parking. The theater is housed within the old Seattle Women's Club building. The lobby of the theater is the largely unchanged former sitting room of the Women's Club - a spacious, beautiful room. The theater is a reparatory theater that plays independent films and plays only two films at a time. It's worth the effort.

The Harvard Exit is about as intimate of a movie viewing as you can get. It seats very few and is what you might imagine Bill Gates has attached to his house.
As for movie selection they typically play some more obscure/unknown film titles (at least unknown to the general community).
You will not find the next Jackie Chan movie here!
Also I recommend going around the corner (only a quarter of a block) to Mamma Melinna's for a top quality italian dinner.
