Its funny, you read these reviews and you get the impression that everyone expects 5 start full blown service here. Seems like everyone forgets that the food here averages around 6 dollars an item not 20 or more like you would pay for the full blown dining experience? What do you expect when your average tab is gonna be $25 and a 20% tip is thus $5? A finger bowl and a busboy? Go to Chupacabra and you will find great atmosphere, a damn fine jukebox ( even has the Dwarves ), some good cheep eats, and some strong drinks with some funny and relaxed staff. Go elsewhere if you want suit and tie treatment.
Pros: cheap, good times, strong drinks
Cons: parking, crowded

Nice little place to have a drink and some good food, however don't expect service with a smile, in-fact don't expect any service. I have been there on many different occations and all but one was a stuggle with the staff. They are rude and not very willing to do their job. But you know, the drinks are great and the Jukebox has good tunes, so what are you going to do? Complain and hope they get new staff that is nice and actually does their job!

El Chupacabra, named for the mythical "goat sucker" of Central America, has great drinks, good food for a good price, and cool waitstaff. The salsa is spicy, the chips are free, margaritas are hand-muddled, and the jukebox packs a good selection.
Yes, it can take a while to get served when it is crowded. It is worth the wait. The drinks are strong, delicious, and will help you pass the time. Later in the night on weekdays it is less crowded.
They also have my favorite beer "Tonas" from Nicaragua.
I must stop now. I am just gushing. And I think I need a pomegranite margarita, some carnitas tacos, and a shot of top shelf Mezcal.
Pros: yummy food and drinks, fun atmosphere, GREAT bartending
Cons: , can get busy

I went to El Chupacabra with a group that grew to only 5 people. The tables are very small and the place is crowded so we ending up switching tables 3 times to accomodate our group. This may be annoying to the wait staff but professionals are used to it and they deal. Not at this place! We were told rudely that there is a "three table limit". The "three table limit" waitress then brought us our check far before we were done and demanded that we pay it. We then ended up with another tab, both billing coming to around $70. However, they will never get that $70 again the service was the worst!
Pros: cheap food
Cons: awful service, slow, cold food

Slim chance of that...Few redeeming qualities here. Excellent Margarhitas, but it took forever to get served. Then our glasses were empty for 15 minutes before we got another round. The food finally appeared after about a 45 min wait and it was cold. It might have been a good time if they had enough staff on. There were only two servers working like mad and they were not even close to keeping up. I liked the music and the prices were okay. Three simple tacos for $5. Just a tortilla with some meat and a sprinkle of onion and a little slice of avocado. Could have been good if they served it hot with some salsa. Oh well, I really wanted to like the place, which makes it all the more dissapointing.
Pros: Drinks, Funky, Fun Music
Cons: Understaffed, No Air Conditioning

It has been awhile since my actual trip so I can't remember the actual name of what I ordered. It was a plate of tacos that basically consisted of a tortilla with a little pile of meat and a slice of avocado on top. Very boring and not worth the price. My friend and I got horrible service. The guy kept forgetting we were there or something. No water refills for us! I had to track down a waitress for my bill after a long time waiting with no food on my plate. Oh yeah, they charge extra for chips and instead of giving us multiple kinds of salsa like they mentioned on the menu and gave the other table we got 3 containers of the same kind. I was very disappointed with this place.
Pros: Cozy, Good margaritas
Cons: Tiny menu, Bad service

Formerly an organic/granola restaurant, and even more formerly some folks' living room, El Chupacabra keeps things simple -- a bar, six or so tables and small-portion Mexican food. Judging from its kitsch-spasm decor and unassuming hipness, it appears as though Ballard has crept up the hill and painted Greenwood's walls red. In the past few months, the clientele has crept up in age. Let's liven it up, folks, eh?
Pros: Outdoor seating, Ambience, Reasonbly priced beer
Cons: Size, Parking

Recently went for my first time and fell in love with the place. Extremely well designed (former house?) interior with a bar and dining area willed with a "day of the dead" type decor. Excellent beer selection and extremely tasty food that's very easy on your wallet. I managed to taste their tacos, quesedillas and burritos and were impressed by all, but their carnitas tacos really stand out. Very friendly staff kept the beer and food flowing! Can't wait to return.
Pros: Cozy decor, Great food, Good service
Cons: None!
