El Chupacabra is MY neighborhood bar. I love the food and the drinks are quite good if a little strong. The atmosphere is somewhat dark and good for a date as the lights are low. There is also free pool. One thing though is that this is a very popular destination so it can be crowded on the weekends. But I can understand why. The food is really tasty and the serving staff is very nice. I don't understand all these negative reviews of "mean beer wenches" I have been here MANY times, usually with large parties of more than 10 and we are always treated very well, despite outward appearances. Maybe people are just inimidated by tatoos and piercings. The serving staff has always been kind. Yeah tatooed bartender yells sometimes, but never to be mean. Anyway the food is great and the drinks are worth the price.
Pros: good service, polite, strong drinks

Great food, great value, and super fast service from the fiery red-head...I'm not exaggerating, she handles the whole place single-handedly without pen and paper!
Oh and the bartender makes a fantastic margarita!
This is the place for drink, fun, and fast good eats.
Pros: fun, easy going, yummy food
Cons: can be a bit loud

I've been to El Chupacabra several times and I just don't know why they expend so much energy being so unpleasant! Sometimes a little attitude is welcome and interesting, but not bone-crushing meanness! I get abused enough at work and in traffic...I don't like to go out for drinks and get yelled at by the waitress for no reason. The food is inexpensive and good and the margaritas (7$) are strong and tasty. The bartender there last Friday (3/31) was sweet and I feel bad for him that he has to work with the rude wench who yelled at us and then seated us. I was a bartender and server for years and I'll cheerfully put up with a lot - slow kitchens, rushed wait staff, an occasional hair in the food, - anything but mean servers. I'm not going back. Ever. Period.
Pros: Good Food, Veggie Options, Great Margaritas
Cons: Service, Crowded, Nachos are awful

Snuggled in the lower reaches of the Greenwood/Phinney neighborhood is a cozy little bar called "El Chupacabra". This bar boasts one of the best (and only one I know of) late-night happy-hours in North Seattle. Pints and mixed drinks at $2.50 from 10:30 pm to 12:30 pm every night; and yes, they have a traditional happy-hour as well. Not to mention a great little Mexican menu to compliment the decor and name.
Stepping into this bar is also quite interesting as the patrons come from all walks of life. Some nights you'll hear dj's playing a mixture of punk rock and classic country, or as it is dubbed "Democratic DJ Night". And being a pet-friendly bar goes a long way with some of the regulars who like to bring their four-legged friends along.
If you're in the neighborhood or looking for somewhere to get a few last drinks in, stop by. Located at NW 67th Avenue and Greenwood Avenue North.

Anyplace where you can sit outside on a warm night and enjoy beer and appetizers deserves one star for that alone. So here is a star for Chupacabra. When I went for said experience, my waiter must have been altered. For example, he was absolutely unable to provide their selection of salsas to all of the tables, so we customers ended up passing our salsas around to make due. I was fool enough to order posole (a soup). It came with the tiniest spoon you have ever seen, and no one could bring me a bigger one. The whole situation harshed my buzz.

Nothing about this place stood out to me, except maybe its name and decorating. This tiny place would probably be better if it was strictly a bar with minimal food offerings. The food was unimpressive, the tables are too close together, which makes it seem as though you are dining with the whole room not just your companions.
Pros: Price
Cons: Tiny

It's a small, pleasant enough room (if a little formulaic...is it possible to be more tired of the 'wacky Mexican' look?). Decent taps and bar. It's just the service...the bartender must've been in the middle of open-heart surgery for all the time and interest she showed in filling our simple order of two pints of beer. She ignored us the rest of the night. Good thing we were only in for a beer.
I'm sure they'll do fine. Like anywhere, Seattle has enough people with low standards to make even terrible businesses like this successful.

Someone told me that this place has some great Mexican food so i had to try it out. It was bad. Really bad. The beans were old. The burrito and enchiladas was very very bland. They gave us extra sauce to spice it up that tasted like mayo. The only thing good that i have to say about this place is that the margaritas were good.

The food wasn't bad bad, but it was cold. Salsa in a tube isn't my idea of salsa. Also what's up with no chips and salsa before the meal?!? Our waitress had no clue what she was doing and got our bill wrong three times. I would sayif you like El Gorditos you will be dissappointed in this place. The deal is El Chupacabra is a bar. It looks like a bar, smells like a bar and you have to yell like in a bar.
Pros: None
Cons: Late Happy Hour, Too Loud
