They've moved to 10722 5th Ave NE (Northgate) and the new place is GREAT! The instructors are top-notch and no 2 classes are exactly the same. If you like kickboxing or just need to do something different, give this a try - it's a great value for the money!

And this is a great place to learn.
I've been training for about a year at 7 star, and I couldn't have asked for a better environment to train in--seriously.
I was worried when I first starting training, because I was very overweight (I was at 280 pounds). I was frightened that I wouldn't be able to keep up, and that I would be made to feel out of place. As it turned out, it wasn't like that at all--the instructors work with you exactly where you are, and are patient and committed to helping you move towards your goals. In the year that I've been training I've lost over 40 pounds, and have experienced a complete overhaul in my strength and physical abilities. And it's more than just physical--I've found that training in martial arts has given me an increased confidence and a calmness in stressful and frightening situations.
Plus, the school offers a wide range of class work--not only in Kajunkenbo (which is itself a mix of five styles), but in stick fighting, Shaolin weapons, street fighting, and more. I never get bored training at this school, ever.

I joined this Dojo a couple years ago and I for one have learned an incredible amount in the classic art of Goju Rju. Kris Wilder the sensei/owner is a one of kind. Not only is he a very high ranking sensei, he also really understands what it takes to help you get to the next level. I highly recommend the West Seattle Karate Dojo; not only for the self defense part but for the other things you gain in being there.

This Indonesian martial arts school has helped me get fit and learn about self defense. I'd never taken martial arts and I wasn't much of an athelete before I joined Fifth River. But the instructors made sure I could keep up with the level of training they offered. Over time, my speed, endurance, reflexes, balance, and strength have all improved. I feel much more aware, present, and comfortable in my body since I've started training at Fifth River. (And I quit smoking!)
Instructors really care about safety and about making sure their students are comfortable as they learn. Highly recommended for the beginning student who wants to be in better shape and learn how to defend him or herself or for the accomplished martial artist looking for an interesting, flowing perspective on self defense.
Pros: Friendly, effective training tailored to individual needs
Cons: Parking can be challenging when there's an event at Key Arena

Definitely check out Seattle Kajukenbo!
The kids program there is called 'Kung Fu Kids' and the website is www.seattlekajukenbo.com
This style is a combination of Korean Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Kempo, and Chinese Boxing (Kung Fu). The kids also practice tumbling and games that develop hand-eye coordination and strategic thinking skills, and of course they have a fabulous time doing it! There are several class options to choose from and even if you have to wait a little while to get into a class it is really worth it. The Sifu and all the teachers are great. The kids learn so much from them. I have been especially impressed by their ability to teach so many important skills to the kids in a non-stressful and encouraging environment. My seven year old has been at the school for almost a year now and always has such a great time at her classes. The school is centrally located at 22nd and Union, and easy to get to from anywhere in Seattle. As with any school, you have to check it out for yourself, and let your child try a class. Seattle Kajukenbo teaches real skills and anyone who wants to learn, will really benefit. Self-defense skills are important!

Behind peeling red paint and dusty windows, Seattle Martial Arts Supplies sits tucked away on King Street. Peeking in past the yellowing Black Belt magazines and other kung-fu related periodicals, you see an older-looking shop filled to the brim with martial arts supplies and you feel almost like you've been transported to an alley way in China. Unfortunately, the charm pretty much ends there. The space is cramped and there aren't any real displays, making browsing difficult and less than inviting. While there are many supplies (clothing, weapons, fighting gear), the goods feel stacked without any obvious order; finding what you need will require the assistance of the staff, who fortunately are nice and helpful. One man, I've heard, can immediately tell you which pant size will fit exactly. I've yet to be a patron while he's working, though.
With the wealth of online suppliers, the prices feel high at Seattle Martial Arts Supplies. A metal fan, for example, runs about $60+. But if you'd like to handle a particular weapon, try on clothing or if you need something immediately, this is a good shop--and one of the only ones in the area--with your basic gear.
