I have recently moved away from Seattle and I really miss McCarthy & Schiering. Why? Because I have trouble finding great Washington state wines now for one. These guys always have great new vintners mixed in with the elite of Washington winemakers. I loved finding an outstanding bottle for $18 in this shop. I also miss the friendly staff who always treated you nicely no matter how much or how little you know about wine. Finally, I miss the Saturday afternoon tastings. Spending a half hour browsing in the shop while tasting two or three wines is a great Saturday afternoon activity.

Dan and Jay have been helping Seattle oenephiles for decades now -- and more importantly, building a repoire with the winemakers who serve them. Although (in typical Seattle fashion), the stores are small (Queen Anne more so than the Ravenna spot), if these guys don't have it in stock, they know when/where/how much they can get. These guys remember the palettes of their individual customers, and are able to recommend wines that they think follow the preferences of each of their clients. Whether you are just beginning to taste and collect, or you have a Master Sommelier medal, these guys are a card that needs to be in your Rolodex.
If you have any intent on purchasing frequently, spend the bucks to join their buyer's club. You'll save real $$$ in no time.

I love this neighborhood wine shop.
They have a great selection and knowledgable people work there.
Wine snobs will love the choices they have made and laypeople will enjoy the friendly reception to naive questions.
I even brought my Swiss friends here when they were seeking specialty wines to use for, and drink with, fondue. They were quite happy with the place.
