Best Indian/Nepalese food that I have had in Seattle, with shockingly low prices for high-quality food. The atmosphere is very casual and fun, and the food--ooooooh, the food. I will crave Annapurna for weeks, even immediately after a dinner there.
I recommend their lunches: the menu and portions are the same, yet the prices are lower than at dinner.
Pros: Food, prices, ambience, etc.
Cons: Not open Sunday afternoons (yep, that's it!)

Banjara has gone out of business.
The owners of the neighboring restaurant bought the space and are building a new one there.
If you are craving north Indian food and are in Queen Anne, you can head down the hill to Roti in Uptown.
Actually, Banjara was started by an Indian man named David, who sold Banjara years ago and opened Roti.

I moved to California seven years ago. This is still my favorite lunch whenever I get the chance to re-visit Seattle. Never would have imagined myself liking middle eastern food. Cafe Zumzum was a great introduction. I've even taken my kids...and they, of course, loved it too. Whether you commute downtown everyday or visit once in a lifetime, I would recommend stopping by for a tasty and memorable meal. Seating can get crowded, but take-out is available.
Pros: every menu item, service, price
Cons: closed on weekends, close early weekdays

Hands down best Indian food in Seattle is Cedars on Brooklyn Restaurant. It is crowded ('cause we love it), but the servers don't smash into you either. Long wait times are made easier by understanding that there is no reservation service at all. If you phone in you are just telling them what time you will start to wait, NOT reserving a table. My Darling Spidey and I made great conversation with others on numerous occasions while waiting in line outside, sometimes in the rain. I am not a big fan of waiting for service but understand it is easier to sit a couple or threesome faster than parties of 6 or more. We like the saag alu and the naan you can make a meal of by itself. As for the tip we leave $3.00 total, whether it's just us or a party or 12. The Owner keeps the tips because he pays the servers much more than minimum wage. It's a great place to go when there are carnivores and vegetarians both in your group. They don't cross contaminate with utensils on meat/veggies so you can rest assured you will have a true vegetarian meal.
Pros: Excellent Food great for carnivores and vegetarians as well!
Cons: limited parking, not for big parties

Well, all I can say is this--I have tried many Indian restaurants in the USA, right across from New York to Frisco, but soon as I walked into Chutneys, I just felt so relaxed and "at home". They had some kinda Indian song tune playing, but without any vocals, which just gave it that extra air of authenticity. There was a middle aged guy standing by the cash till, whom I assumed to be the owner, and soon as I walked in, he immediately walked towards me with huge smile and welcoming pleasantries. This was followed by a yound lady who took my coat and asked where I wanted to sit. The food I ordered was absolutely superb, with a great range of cold beers to suit. After I had eaten my fill, the lady asked me if I wanted a cup of Indian spice tea, which I agreed to, and that really rounded off an excellent, relaxing evening! On another occasion, after a long walk at the PIke Place Market, I stumbled upon another Indian restaurant called Pabla Cuisine, which I think is at 2nd St near the market. This place was the complete reversal of Chutneys--surly, uninterested Staff, horrible, mass-produced type food. Two weeks later, I was back at Chutneys, sampling their delights again! Oh, and I found out the name of the owner--Mr Gill. Next time you are there, ask for him by name and he will help you choose your dishes and tell you a little about them, too! And mention my name (Jag from London UK) and you will get preferential treatment!
PS one time I was at Chutneys at lunchtime and the place was packed--so much so, that the waiters had to virtually barricade the door shut to stop any more people coming in!!! That would not happen if the place was lousy!! By the way, this is review is about the place in Lower Queen Anne Street.
Pros: Ambience, parking, peace and quiet!
Cons: Having to leave!

I make it to Chutneys about once a week to meet a friend who lives nearby. Chutneys was the first place I ever tried Indian food and after two trips to South India (Bangalore), I can tell you that their tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala are superb. One thing to note, though, is that if you want it really spicy, you might need to tell them you want it south Indian spicy. Once they got it right and I had to make a trip to the bathroom to clear my sinuses. That was a good meal. My favorites are the tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, vegetable samosas, and the chicken kasturi. Also, the garlic naan is delicious, too. Service at Chutney's has never been bad for me, and the waitstaff has always been attentive and informative.
Pros: Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori chicken
Cons: A little pricey
