Pat and Bill are more than architects. They're artists (literally - she paints; he sculpts and both draw).
They listen to what you want and what you need, and create a space that is a thrill to inhabit. They are environmentally sensitive and have a Northwest sensibility, and their work has been chosen as a Seattle Times/AIA home of the month.

Tom Lee at TAL consulting is a certified P.E. in Florida (hence the Florida area code) and Washington State (spends time in both places). He came to our house and was clearly competitent in his trade, and seemed reasonably priced. We did not end up using him because the structural redesign was beyond our budget, but we could not have reached that conclsion without his help. He charges $85/hr. $100 for an initial consultation and a minimum of $500 if he ends up doing any work (i.e., writing design specs). Nice guy, too.

I worked with Linda Withington in 2001 to design our yard and garden. It was a great process and I thoroughly enjoyed working with Linda and her staff. We ended up with a unique, artful, year-round garden that I absolutely love and many wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy. Check out their new website at www.beerswithington.com.

Up front, this shop is NOT fancy and it seems that the employees do not go outside to take their smoke breaks. That said, we had a chair recovered and it looks absolutely fabulous! (You can always buy Fabreeze if need be.) The cost, labor + fabric, was at least 1/2 the price of estimates I received from several other places. The fabric selection is pretty extensive and I felt the work was completed in a timely manner.
I don't know that I would take a family heirloom here, but if you've got something that needs a quick facelift and don't feel like spending an arm and a leg to do it, I recommend these guys.

In our house, you will find a futon sofa-bed, a queen-sized bed, a chair, a coffee-table, several lamps, picture frames and a hutch, all purchased from Comfort by Akiko. We like to buy locally when we can, and Akiko’s boutique offers all sorts of items that enhance our home. Over the years, we have become friends with Akiko, much as one might be able to do so in a smaller town than Seattle. While parking is always an issue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, there is a 30 minute load zone in front of the store that opens up regularly.

Besides being the only tile showroom open late in Seattle, Seattle Tile Co. has one of the better selections as well. Their helpful staff is glad to work with you in order to figure out what fits your needs, and are not afraid to make recommendations and offer their opinions.
They also have their own installers available as an added service, but frankly I found them rather overpriced. The tiles themselves, however, where quite reasonable.

I needed curtains for my bedroom because I need that kind of security, and I thought I would get ripped off anywhere so I went here, and they were great. The prices were cheap, and the quality of the curtains was better then that of anything else that I have in my room.

Try Queen Anne Frame on the top of the hill.
They have a good selection of this type of poster including a really nice Art Deco-style poster made up for Puget Sound rather than the originals advertising places like St.Moritz and the French Riviera.
The owner also travels all over the world and brings back great photographs.

I know you said you have tried U-frame-it on broadway but did you do it or did you have them do it? The reason i ask is because if you go and do it yourself at u-frame-it it is a significant savings. This is the only place i know of that is good and cheap.
