After some very disappointing experiences at lower-quality chain stores (e.g., Museum Quality Framing), I tried this single-location storefront in Fremont and have been a loyal customer ever since. Pros: Great quality and variety of frame stock, mat and glass options; knowledgeable and helpful staff (i.e., people with a well-developed aesthetic sense who aren't afraid to have an opinion); reasonable prices; decent turnaround times; great customer service. Cons: somewhat more expensive than the typical chain store. As other reviewers have noted, this is also a fun store to visit and browse for gifts, cards and home decor, so it's worth having on your list even if you don't have a framing project.

The Frame Up is my favorite knick-knack store in Fremont. It sells a variety of home décor items and wall art that work really well as gifts. I recommend coming here if you need a gift for a friend or housewarming, or just for yourself. Unlike Capers and other similar stores, these guys aren’t ridiculously overpriced, and most importantly, they have an in-store framing facility, hence the name, that does anything from traditional frames to mounting postcards and other stuff on wooden blocks.

Frame Up Studios in Fremont is the most awesome shop for wonderful, interesting little gifts, from neat picture frames to candle holders, unique jewelry, little knick-knacks, toys & fun items and stationery. And GIRL (or guy)....the cards! I am a greeting card junkie in every single sense of the word and this place feeds my need. I love it, I love it, I love it! I cannot speak of the actual framing but they do have many to choose from and what is displayed in the store certainly looks good. Next time you're in Fremont browsing around or are looking for that "distinctively cool" gift, drop in. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
