My boyfriend has worn coke bottle glasses for pretty much his whole life and always hated it. Last year he decided to get Laser Eye surgery and say goodbye to glasses forever. He and I researched doctors in the Seattle area (and Canada) and found Sound Eye & Laser. They are in the Swedish Medical Center building on capitol hill and are very good at what they do. He met with them for a consultation and was deemed a good candidate for the surgery. He went in EARLY on a Saturday morning, had an exam and then the surgery took only about 15 minutes. They re-checked his vision right after and it was already 20/20. They sent him home with an aftercare bag and dark glasses. There are follow-up appointments (1 week, 1 month, 2 month, 6 month, etc.) where they check the healing, etc. All in all this was a totally positive experience and he is very happy with his 20/20 or better results! Please carefully consider that if you have the surgery you should be close enough to be able to get there for the follow-up visits and any aftercare in case something happens. These are your eyes, don't take chances with them.

I am not exactly a young man anymore nor am I in prime physical condition. Nevertheless, I was eager to get back out on the pitch and play a little futbol. Sadly, my return to soccer was cut short by a nasty injury that occurs all too frequently among men of my age and in my condition: ruptured achilles tendon. Ouch.
Anyway, last week I saw my regular physician at the UW Physicians Roosevelt clinic:
http://www.judysbook.com/members/3298/posts/2006/1/247179/
She refered me to the UW emergency room for "fast track" treatment which means I didn't have to wait too long. Nice. After a round of x-rays and exams by medical residents and nurses I was given the diagnosis and told to go the Sports Medicine clinic for a follow up.
That visit was today and I was really pleased with the experience. After the requisite paperwork, I was examined by Dr. Greene who explained the pros and cons of surgical repair. (I opted to have it done) He was patient and clear with me which I appreciated. Not something you always get with doctors. After our visit, I was seen by a resident and medical student who were equally attentive. Once I'd spent some QT with the doctors a medical assistant helped me find a boot to wear pre-post surgery and answered any of my lingering questions about the surgical experience. My last stop was with the billing person who was very informative regarding what would be covered, what wouldn't, and the procedures I'd need to follow to ensure there weren't any issues with insurance now or later.
In short, it was as pleasant an experience as I could have hoped. The medical and office staffs were all nice, helpful, and efficient. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing care for a sports-related injury, then I recommend getting care at UW Sports Medicine.

I went to this dentist for a broken cavity. From my perspective, and I don't know anything much dentistry -- he handled my problem with expertise, excellent hadns, and great aesthetic care. The result was a tooth that I don't anticipate having trouble with for the next 50 years.
On a personal note -- he's a nice guy and reminds me of doogie hawser. He's really 40 years old but doesn't look much over 21.

I was a little nervous to have needles stuck in my body, but Donna made this the most comfortable experience! Just like her massages, she takes the time to be sure that you are comfortable and that your needs are met. She pays attention to you and you just know her focus is entirely with you. I wouldn't trust just anyone to perform acupuncture on me, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Donna.

Petit Soliel is my way of pampering yourself. Stephanie is very professional at what she does and does a wonderful job at that. I had sugaring done (which is better than waxing) of the legs, underarms, brows and lip.
Her room had a very peaceful look and feel to it, with warm but cheery colors and very cozy. Stephanie makes your visit and enjoyable experience, even if you are getting your hair ripped out :P
I'm going back for sure for the bikini area and at a later date for a facial and aromatherapy for those "stressful" days. I highly recommend Petit Soliel to anyone who wants to pamper themselves with more of a "homey" atmosphere unlike your typical crowded salon.

More
In March, I became aware of the most unique healing and beauty tool I have ever encountered~~and you all know I love to try new beauty and healing forms, especially when they are affordable and painless.
This tool is called Revitalight. It resembles a small shower head, but instead of water coming out of it, different colored lights (that do different things) excite the skin cells and heal everything from wrinkles to swelling, to scars to tendonitis to bruising, skin infections, sinus problems~~you name it.... The possibilities are endless.
Revitalight uses LED (Light Emitting Diodes) technology that was discovered when NASA sent up seedlings to be grown under lights to see if plants could grow or thrive under space conditions. NASA was unhappy (and kept it hush-hush) that when they sent astronauts into space for two weeks when they arrived home their bodies had aged 10 years. When they sent up the plants that were being lit with LED lights, NASA noticed that the astronauts who tended the plants (and were inadvertently exposed to the lights) had aged 2 weeks during the 2 week period of time while the astronauts who didn't tend the plants aged 10 years.
So they devised a way for all the astronauts to be exposed to the light, and guess what? They aged the same amount of time up there as they would have at home. So NASA made personal units of these LED machines fro each astronaut and their aging issues were over. This was in the early 80's.
This translates into a small, handheld device that heals. My biggest testimony is that I got a very deep puncture wound on my left shin (you could actually see the bone through the mush if you cared to look) and I had access to the Revitalight machine for 24 hours after getting the wound and today, it is still tender, but without the treatments I have had (3-4 times since the initial injury) it would be still scabby, purple, green and oozing. It healed so fast because I was able to use the light directly on it right after the injury occurred.
Also, I have used the pen-shaped wand on the little wrinkle between my eyes, right where the nose starts. That particular wrinkle always bothered me, and with just one treatment I can hardly see it. And, David has always been bothered by the bags under his eyes. He has had 2 treatments on just his left eye, and there is a very noticeable difference. We need to do the right eye soon! His left eye looks less puffy underneath, the skin is smoother and the whole eye looks higher than the other.
I used to go to a skin-care professional estician I met and she charged $60 for a 20 minute session with one light which I gladly paid (and I heard later that this was the friends and family deal...she actually charges $120 a session!). But I now have a friend, Linda Wiley, who bought a Revitalight who is charging $80 for 30 minutes and has a splitter cable so she can use two lights at once. So Linda's deal is incredible. The other estician at a spa was basically charging $3.00 a minute. If you look at Linda's charge (with the dual light availability) it boils down to $1.33 a minute. And she is giving first-time people a half-price deal so they can try it out and see for themselves. Here is what she wrote about it:
I am offering an introductory session at half price which is $40.00. I have realized now that I need to let people know up front that it is a 6 treatment package. It really takes several sessions at different levels to heal more completely. Anyway, if people want to pay for the entire package up front, the deal is $440 (which is the first session at half price).
Linda Wiley at Healing Light Arts can be reached at 206/799-9677 and sees clients on Mondays and Fridays.
Here is the website for Revitalight: Revitalight.com
I really urge you to try out this amazing light machine for yourself. Just being around the lights make you feel better. I would love to own one of these incredible machines one day soon. But they are VERY expensive. If you have any kind of injury, scarring, wrinkles or something that just plain hurts, Linda is the person to go see.

I've been going to this dentist's office for 10 years now and I continue to be a fan. Originally when I began utilizing their services it was just Dr. Ross Fraker, a gentleman that was beginning to near his retirement years. Now, his daughter (Dr. Sarah Fraker) has joined the business, and actually taken over now, after her dad developed a new dental machine that he's traveling the US promoting.
Dr. Sarah Fraker has introduced a few things that I really like such as the massage chairs so you can get soothing massage and/or heat while having your teeth cleaned or worked on. She also did a small renovation to the clinic when she took over; updating the interior (cosmetically) and updating some of the equipment.
The staff has always been friendly and Linda has been a constant at the front desk. My personal favorite technician (pro teeth cleaner) is Becky. She's always sweet and friendly and she does an excellent job. On occasion a fill in (no pun intended) may be there but I'm never as satisfied as when Becky does the work. If you live in the Greenlake, Phinney Ridge, Greenwood, Maple Leaf, Wallingford or Ravenna neighborhoods this would be a real easy place to start going. If you're further out but can't find someone good local to you it would be worth a short drive 2 times a year.
The original Dr. Fraker also was good enough when I needed adult braces to send me to a great orthodontist in Ballard (who also has a Lynnwood location) named Dr. Bruce Hawley. He and his assistant, Sue Bragg, are great. Dr. Hawley is shy and doesn't really get into small talk but he is good at what he does. My teeth and smile are an excellent example of his work! Between these two services I've been flashing my smile and been proud of it.
