If you're in need of it, they probably stock it. From nails, garden supplies, coax splitters, fans, heaters, telephone cable, etc. they have it all. I'm always amazed at how much inventory they get in a fairly small store.
Also, the folks working there are very knowlegdable and nice.
The perfect neighborhood hardware store.

like at any hardware store, i always seek out the oldest (infer most experienced) person for all my questions. today John (who isn't really that old but older than the twenty-something guy in the paint department) helped me find the small device that goes through a door and holds the door knobs on that would allow me to adjust our loose and rattley knobs. then he pointed out mailboxes and when i asked about a red one he said he could order one but it would be very easy to spray paint a mailbox exactly the color i wanted. my point is, i can find almost anything i need at City Peoples and most employees there are very helpful and seem to enjoy the game of finding the needed product. they have a paint department, lots of cleaning supplies, shelves, hardware, house numbers, gardening tools, bulbs, kitchen tools, pet supplies, plumbing, electrical.... all the essential hardware stuff. plus, they have super home furnishings like small furniture, cook books, linens, candles, rugs, decorating things, garden umbrellas and a nice children's section with books and toys. oh, they also have unusual women's clothing. my quick trips to city people's always take 5 times longer because they have so many cool things to look at. check them out, you can even buy plants for your garden there.

Excellent store. Carries project essentials, of course. But it also has fiar prices on bigger items. And best of all, it has the staff, the mythical neighborhood hardware store staff who know everything. They really do.
Save yourself a trip to the big box stores.

They are always very helpful everytime I come in. They don't make you feel bad if you don't know how to do something they just help you along with your project. Whenever, I need to fix something I go over there and talk to them first to get an idea of what to do before I call a professional.
They also have some cool hard to find items such as dutch ovens and other pots and pans. The store itself is kind of small especially compared to the Home Depot but the staff is more readly available. Plus I like to support the little guy.

More
Magnolia Hardware is not the place to buy thousands of dollars worth of supplies for that new home improvement project. It is, however, a great place to dash to when you're in the middle of that project and discover you've forgotten an important tool or component. Although the store is small, in a neighborhood storefront, their selection is surprisingly large. They are smart about keeping their inventory to exactly the types of things that people come running in for at the last minute so don't be surprised when you actually find exactly what you're looking for in this cozy little store.

More
Have you ever needed one washer for a leaky faucet, or just one nail for a repair project? Are you tired of replacing more the entire fixture, when you only need to replace a part? Try Five Corners Hardware, located on the intersection of 3rd Ave. W. and McGraw St. on the northern topside of Queen Anne hill. It's one of the last remaining true hardware stores. You can get keys made, or buy glass for windows, screen for doors or windows, plumbing and electrical parts, tools, hardware, gardening supplies and more. You can actually buy one washer if that's all you need for your faucet, unlike those other larger stores where you need to buy at least twenty. It's a family owned store and the people who work there are exceptional helpful and friendly.

I had limited time to run into Morgan's and pick out a wide spread faucet. The Morgan's salesman immediately asked the type I wanted and my budget. I said old-timey chrome and he took me to their sale section which actually had what I wanted. Score!

If you've never been to Hardwick's, you have to go. They have some of the greatest tools in town. It's obvious that the buyer for this store actually uses tools. They find something good, they stock it in the store. I've been a General Contractor since 1980 and I highly recommend Hardwick's. They probably have what you're looking for. You might not be able to find it, but just ask and they'll know what you're talking about and take you to where it is in the store. That's probably the owner of the store that's showing you around. You'll never get that treatment at Home Depot. It's a fun place to go and it makes you feel good spending your hard earned money in your hard working neighbor's store.
