South West purposely gives you the impression they will charge less than their competitors because they don't charge by the hour like other plumbers do. They don't give free estimates, and are in your home when they drop the bomb on you. I feel their way of doing business is dishonest!

If you've ever had a plumbing emergency, you know what to do: call your trusted, always on-call, ever-responsive plumber immediately. What happens if he doesn't answer though? That's the dilemma I was faced with when a busted cast iron pipe began spewing water inside an interior wall of my house. Faced with the less-than-confident exercise of rifling through the yellow pages, South West Plumbing received the call. South West caught my eye only in the sense that they claimed no trip charge or estimate charge, and they specialized in old plumbing. After a couple hours, the two-person crew showed up. While completely pleasant and quite professional, the explanation of the requisite work and an estimate style akin to scratching your head with pencil before writing down a random number left me less than excited. Having said that, the work was done within the committed time frame and they left the work area as clean as they found it. All in all, if the explanation of their proposed work was a bit more thorough, illustrating nothing more than a time and materials type of bid, I would be much more comfortable given them a positive review. I've found it hard to come away from a plumbing experience feeling "good,", but if professionalism, relatively quick response (even during the evening hours) and quality work are your only criteria, you' should be satisfied with South West. I suppose in an emergency, that's about all you can ask for.

I too would give zero stars if Judy's book made that technically possible. This company is terrible, ridiculously over priced and more a scam than a legitimate plumber, in my opinion. I called for an estimate on a simple leak (hole) in an exposed pipe. Of three companies called, Southwest made a bid 3 to 4 times more expensive than the others. They also claimed an entire section of house plumbing needed to removed and installed new. Southwest also quotes in fixed prices. So while the prices are set, you as a consumer have no way of knowing how much of that price is for labor, materials, mark up, etc. Our simple leaks was fixed by an old fashioned, honest plumber for about 1/3 of what Southwest quoted. If you consider using Southwest, call the Attorney General's office to check their complaints. To no suprise, today's PI lists Southwest as one of the worst plumbbers in the state: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/248654_checkbook17.html

I have used this company a hanffull of times over the past 10 years and while in the beinning it was great.. I have gradually found that the quality of service to be slipping downhill. I can only suspect it is due to growth in the business. It seems like they their times for the usual services have been gradually getting stretched out (costing me more). I dont know if its due to inexperience or what.

Never ever call these guys. I would write a description of what happened but I'm concerned about a libel suit since it would be hard to prove how bad it really was. Let's just say the experience with them came directly out of a horror movie. If it was possible on the rating scale I would give them 0 stars.
