Dr. Blackham is absolutely terrific! He was willing to submit to my very scrutinizing interview and answer all my questions. I worked in health care for 11 years and had had an extremely bad vaginal delivery the first time, which required a c-section for the second time around. So, I grilled him with questions and had several things I wanted to have a say in that are not "standard" procedures during pregnancy and c-sections delivery. Dr. Blackham was completely respectful of my medical knowledge and personal wishes derived from experience. I had interviewed other OB's who were extremely offended by my candor and desire to be a "partner" in my health care. Dr. Blackham was completely the opposite. He went to work doing all he could to facilitate my wishes (none that would compromise my or our baby's health, of course!). He was also willing to research a little used treatment for my pregnancy condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which I could not get other OB's to even look at. We tried the treatment with a conservative approach and it saved me from being hospitalized and spending my entire pregnancy just trying to survive (literally!). It saved my family from not having a mom (functionally anyway, as I was a lump on the floor on IV's and home health care). His office is small and not fancy, but comfortable and puts me at ease. I love the fact that he is not rushing patients through and cares about your comfort and modesty as a woman. His wife sews "moo-moo's" and real cloth cover-ups so you don't have to fight paper gowns, feel exposed to the world and cold. His receptionists have been wonderful to me. Dr. Blackham called me back on nights and weekends when I was so sick (before the treatment could be used) and has never made me feel rushed or like I was disturbing him. He is the perfect combination of extremely professional and knowledgeable along with being truly caring, respectful, and willing to "think outside the box" to provide excellent care for his patients. Dr. Blackham is the best!

I've been to maybe 20 gynecologists in the last 7 years. I've been misdiagnosed, hurt, ignored, and generally treated poorly. Dr. Blackham made me feel comfortable, diagnosed me in a matter of minutes and followed through with treatment in a caring way that totally involved me. Most importantly, he listened. Sure, he doesn't have a nurse, and he performs paps with no supervision after the first one, but I'd rather have a good doctor than a huge staff.

As an older woman, I appreciated his candid views on my medical problems. He is an excellent surgeon with great follow-up.
I highly recommend him.

I can't believe that bad review of Dr. Blackham. He doesn't need a nurse because you deal directly with him. When you have a problem a nurse doesn't call you back he does, that way you can ask questions. And as for her complaint that he spent time talking to her in his office what's with that? The guy was trying to get information on what her problem was. This doctor helped me through two miscarriages and 2 successful pregnancies and a host of other problems and I have nothing bad to say about him. If you want a doctor's office in a medical park go there. He is not a puppy mill like most medical offices today. I have only good things to say about him!

After YEARS of female gyno's dismissing my chronic intense pelvic pain, FINALLY Dr. Blackham was able to diagnose and treat my Endo.
I could not disagree more with the lady who based her review on Dr. Blackham on fear instead of fact. It's because he's willing to do an exam himself rather than rely on non-invasive tests only that he finally diagnosed me. He gave me the SURGERY I needed instead of being a coward, more concerned with liability than the care of the patient.
If you want a fancy building with glass sculptures, and the "latest technology", go to a fertility clinic with an icy cold overstaffed and overpriced and well suited downtown Posh doctor. If you want comfortable good care and a doctor who is willing to do the exams himself and the tough diagnosis based on YOUR unique symptoms and YOUR health, go see Dr. Blackham. I only wish that there were more doctors like him rather than the expensive and cold clinics set up by more "current" doctors who refuse to ever take a risk on behalf of treating a patient.
When I am finally able to get Pregnant I will be willing to drive all the way from Maple Valley out to see Dr. Blackham. That's how good of a doctor he is.
He really cares and deserves trust and respect because of his reputation. He doesn't need a hospital and a fancy office because he's a good doctor, not a fake.

I found Dr. Blackham 12 years ago before I had children. Once I became pregnant, I was happy that I could still use him as my OB. I have been a patient of Dr. Blackham for 12 years and am extremely happy. He is a very hands on physician, which is hard to get these days. Even though I have moved from the area, I still go to him. He has delivered both my children and I have always referred him to my friends.
For anyone who wants a doctor who is a mix of natural and conventional medicine, he is the guy for you. I will always be grateful to Dr. Blackham for a happy healthy pregnancy that produced 2 beautiful children.
This guy knows his stuff and his staff has always been courteous and helpful. I can't imagine he would hire anyone who would not be as he takes his profession very serious.
I will always remember my first childbirth experience because he was there from beginning to end. His wife took photo's of the birth and he played the guitar afterward.
Thanks Dr. Blackham,
Rachel

I just gave birth to my second child using Dr. Blackham. He is an amazing Dr. I recovered very fast and had no tearing. I also only had to push for 5 minutes. Compared to my first pregnancy he made this one seem easy. He is a great Dr. I was impressed during the prenatal checkups at how I never had to wait more than 10 min. But after the delivery my whole family was impressed.
He made the experience personal and executed my delivery like an artist. I thought both his receptionists were super nice and a small office like his made me feel comfortable because I had more attention than large clinics.
I can see why all the nurses at the hospital said they use Dr. Blackham as their O.B.

Dr. Blackham was very easy for me to work with. Having recently gone through menopause he was the first Dr. who would listen to me and talk to me about hormone replacement options (other Docs dismissed me and my input about my care). I feel very comfortable with Dr. Blackham and know that if I have a problem he'll listen to what I have to say.
He is also very responsive, if I call the office to speak with him he will call me back the same day. I appreciate his consideration in that regard. AND he is normally on time with his appointments!

I could not disagree with Tricia N. more! Everybody has their own experience and I don't want to take away from hers, but Dr. Blackham is an amazing OB/GYN and honestly, he really doesn't need a nurse. In fact, I never even thought about it till reading the reviews posted here. His office is not in a 'strip mall', it's in a office building shared by others in the medical profession such as dentists and chiropractors ect. I could honestly care less what his receptionist looks like, it has no baring on his ability as a doctor. I find his office laid back, yet professional, just like Dr. Blackham. He's one of the few leader's in diagnosing and treating Endometriosis, which is how I became a patient of his. When I became pregnant, I was so excited to have him deliver our baby, he helped design the maternity ward at NW and his delivery techniques were so good that I had no tearing at all (which apparently, he's well known for this). In fact, my husband and I were at Costco the day after delivery! He always delivers his babies which if you've ever experienced any other OB/GYN office, you'd understand why that's so great. I've recommended him to all my friends and in fact, my sister will be using him to deliver hers. My mom is also a patient, and I've never met anyone who was dissatisfied or uncomfortable in his presence. Even the robes are hand made 'moo moo's' instead of those ridiculous paper things you get to where at other offices. One more thing that really makes a difference with him-you don't have to wait a month to see him! Once your a patient, you can make an appointment for just a few days in advance and he'll be able to squeeze you in which is very nice when your an expecting mother who wants to hear the heartbeat 'just to make sure'. Also-his pelvic exams for annual checkups are also very good-he's 'in and out' so fast you don't even realize he's done! I wouldn't go to anyone else for my OB/GYN needs. In fact, I drive from Everett to Seattle to see him and would drive further if he was further away. Corissa A.

I have seen Dr. Blackham after being referred by my physican, which by the way, is in the same location just a few doors down from him. I have worked in the medical field for 21 years. I have worked with all types of physicians. He is nothing but professional and he does a great job. It is true he does not have a nurse on staff. He is not the only Dr. that I know who practices like this. He is part of NW hospital and right there in a medical building across from the hospital is a Dr. who routinely see's pts. alone in a room for very personal female problems, with the same professionalism as Dr. Blackham. I think if you are the paranoid type then he is not the Dr. for you, although you could do a lot worse even with a dr. who has a nurse. He is recommended by me!!!
