If you are having lunch on the go, or just need to pick up something really quick, the Metropolitan Deli has is all. They have grilled sandwiches, a huge sushi assortment (!), mixed salad, a soup bar, a hot food bar (with chicken and brisket!), and a salad bar. Wheew! It is incredible. They also have a very very very tempting bakery. Don't go in starved, or you will spend way too much money. It is a very quality place, but it just might be more then you would normally spend for lunch.

I grew up in Portland and we shopped at Thriftway sometimes. I remember that Thriftways were gross. i think we were on a budget and they were less expensive than glamor grocers like Safeway and Albertsons. Imagine my surprise when returning to the Northwest 15 years later, that Thriftways no longer bite. In fact, the one in West Seattle is great. Expensive, but a pleasant shop. And their take-home food area make me salivate. Compare hours-old fried egg rolls at Safeway to a fresh prime rib sandwich at Thriftway. Actually they changed their name a year ago or so to Metropolitan Market. Fitting since all signs of Thriftway are long gone. And, there is certainly nothing thrifty about shopping here.
