Your Middle Eastern Corner Grocery Store 5/5/2006

They have ingredients for dishes that I had never heard of when I was growing up, which is unfortunate because these are the foods that I have enjoyed the most as an adult. Paneer and Ghee are words that I never heard growing up, along with many other things that are still barely familiar to me. I suspect that it's placed in "Tourist Central" (the Pike Place Market) for those who come from places like Eastern Washington, to get what they just cannot find there. I highly recommend the premixed curry powders. more

This little shop at Pike Place Market is my favorite place to buy Middle Eastern grocery items. One of my favorite finds is canned fava beans (make sure to get the seasoned "secret recipe" kind) which are just $1.29/can. They also have some good bulk spices such as zahtar and sumac, plus packaged Turkish coffee (some flavored with cardamom) and ibrik coffeepots to brew it in. more
