OK, if you have a kid (or can borrow one), they get a fruit of their choice for free just for coming in. How cool is that! As if you had to bribe me to come in the first place! For a person who's new year resolution was: eat more fruits and vegetables, PCC was the answer. I can not go wrong purchasing ANY fruit (or produce) from them. Their produce is the tops - comparable to purchasing directly from the source. Which was their goal to begin with. I have been going there for at least 8 years now and I haven't found a bad apple yet... As for location, there is one in Fremont, Aurora and Issaquah off the top of my head. Fremont is my favorite. The strategic placement of the products enhance the movement/flow of people coming through that store. By the way, PCC has a coupon or two in the Chinook Book.

We used to have our offices close by PCC and so every day around 3:30 pm we would visit the bakery area for some of those Vegan chocolate chip/peanut butter cookies which are sure tough to beat in my experience--worth the $0.99 by far. Now that we've moved down the road on 36th it isn't as convenient. I was there the other morning to get a breakfast burrito, which are a good tasty value for the price--around $3.50, varying by ingredients. I carefully picked out the best burrito that I could find and then wandered over to the drip coffee by the window. A few people were crowded around it and by the time I got up to the container it was out. To my surprise an employee was right behind me and said, "Oh is the coffee out?" And I was so bewildered because just as I was about to walk the container over to the counter an employee was right behind me taking it out of my hands. Plus, she had such a good attitude for the early morning even joking around in a theatrical voice. As she took the empty container out of my hands she offered to make me an Americano (my favorite) instead--I hesitantly replied, "OK" still kind of bewildered. So I got my Americao + a theatrical accent and walked to the register. The reason code written on the cup for the cashier was "waiting." The best part about that experience was that someone was right there addressing my problem and they solved it. I wouldn't of cared if I had to wait at all. Each time I got to PCC it is a good experience and I seem to leave with a skip in my step from the cheery service and good products.

There are many stores that offer tester lotion or makeup, but only PCC has tester vitamins. Some people might think it a little gross, but when I'm picking up some lunch at PCC in Fremont I always swing by the vitamin aisle and grab a free chewable multi-vitamin. . . . And I've never felt healthier!

I'm spoiled. I live in the city with the largest health food co-op chain in the nation. I take it for granted. The new Fremont PCC is great. I come here for lunch most times and occasionally to buy my monthly groceries. I like that the building was built green and there's information around telling you about the materials. I also like the "lunch time" checkout line...really nice for those who just have a few things to buy. I do miss the bulk soap and detergents...which I have to go to Greenlake for (a pain!), but I like that there's still an awesome grocery store in Fremont where I can get tofu sandwiches and bulk almonds.

The PCC in Fremont is my favorite of their stores. It has a lot of windows along the south and west sides, and the natural light really improves the atmosphere. They have a decent-sized bulk food section (although I still wish it were bigger) and a wide variety of deli selections. The packaged groceries are also diverse and numerous. I strongly recommend buying a PCC membership - if you shop there even just once a month it will probably pay for itself in a year or two in member discounts, and it's good for life.

The PCC carries very high quality produce and products, but you certainly pay the price for it. When it comes to what you put into your body, though, I think it's often worth it if you can afford it. The PCC in Fremont is in a brand new building and is beautifully laid out. The produce is great. They have a large variety of fruits and vegetables, though because they tend to sell what's in season and available locally, you won't always be able to find what you are looking for, which is fine with me. The eggs and dairy section is also great. They sell Cascade Fresh yogurt, which I love since they are one of the few brands that don't use corn syrup in their yogurt and even the fat free versions don't have any sugar substitutes or anything like that in them. They sell milk from local dairies and you can even buy the glass bottles and bring them back when you are done. The Fremont PCC has a small selection of fish, meat, and poultry. The fish I've purchased there hasn't seemed very fresh so I try to buy fish elsewhere. I don't buy much beef or chicken, but they've been fine when I have. They also sell sausages. The cheese selection at the Fremont PCC is large and varied, which is wonderful. They even sell mozzarella, parmesan, and a few other cheeses in bulk. The deli is very nice as well. They always have a variety of sliced meats (turkey, roast beef, etc.), tons of various salads, cooked breasts of chicken or fillets of grilled fish, as well as many vegetarian entrees. There is also a section with bulk olives and capers. They sell packed sushi, salads, and sandwiches to go. They even have desserts and slices of cake and cookies you can buy. The baked goods are always fresh and they offer a good variety. Of course the bagels aren't great, but that's because we are in Seattle. They do the best they can. I do believe they are very focused on providing a great wine selection as well. They have a fairly large offering and occasionally have wine tastings. They even have chilled whites on hand for any last minute purchases! PCC Fremont has a great bulk foods section, offerring many types of rice, pasta, cereal, grains, trail mix, and things like chocolate chips and nuts. They also sell bulk spices. You can choose either organic or non and I think this is a great way to save money! I've often needed a spice just for a specific recipe and have been able to spend less than 50 cents to get what I needed. Finally, they round it all out with a large selection of vitamins, personal care items, baby food, miscellaneous items like tin foil, cereals, chips, and the typical frozen foods. They have what you would expect from a grocery store. The only thing that makes the store not perfect for me is that absolutely everything they sell, it seems, is organic or all-natural or whatever, so everything is expensive. When I need to buy something like plastic wrap or food coloring etc., I just want to get something cheap, and you can't really do this here. That is why I really like Marketime market just up the road on 45th. It's small but it has a great balance and is very affordable. Trader Joe's is also a good alternative to the PCC for many items. But, I haven't seen anything other store with the quality and selection of produce that the PCC has. You do not have to be a member of the coop to shop here, but if you do decide to join (I think it's like $50 maybe), you save 10% on a certain day everything month, plus (I think) 5% or so on another day. It could add up to being worth it if you shop there a lot.

The groceries at PCC tend to be on the pricey side, but it's hard to beat the selection of organic produce and other organic groceries. During the holiday season, they offer several different types of turkey - one fully organic, one free-range, and one conventional. The prices at Trader Joe's are more reasonable, but the large selection of produce makes a visit to PCC worthwhile.
