Christian Dardonville is a one of a kind antique restorer and furniture builder. First of all, I called him for an estimate on the repair of an antique my father had given me, and he came the next day! I had had two other bids from other restorers in town, and his was the lowest. Frankly, he did a marvelous job. I was amazed at the way he was able to match the existing color. His repairs are invisible! Last but not least, he has a charming French accent...

Up front, this shop is NOT fancy and it seems that the employees do not go outside to take their smoke breaks. That said, we had a chair recovered and it looks absolutely fabulous! (You can always buy Fabreeze if need be.) The cost, labor + fabric, was at least 1/2 the price of estimates I received from several other places. The fabric selection is pretty extensive and I felt the work was completed in a timely manner.
I don't know that I would take a family heirloom here, but if you've got something that needs a quick facelift and don't feel like spending an arm and a leg to do it, I recommend these guys.

The problem with upholstery is that it is always expensive, but at least with Murphy's they have a great selection of fabrics and know how to make aunt Irma's couch from 1963 look better than it was ever meant to. The store also has small items for gifts, furniture ready to buy and, oddly, a small area with vintage clothing and purses in the back. Recently I purchased a very cool lightswitch cover there.
