So I am back,
Along with two other guys I helped plan a 12 person dinner at Krua. It was wonderful. A little tight inside but again that is part of the charm. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I tried their autumn curry. Yum. It will be one of my all time favorites. I know others enjoyed their farmer’s noodles, massaman curry, garlic trout. Take an evening and go have dinner at Krua.

Krua: I am told means Family kitchen. This is based on how the family loved to cook for friends and others, in time they opened this restaurant in hopes others would feel at home in their kitchen.
Location: 2515 NE 55th street, Seattle Washington 98105
The restaurant is very clean, light colored, with white tables, black chairs, and multi colored un obtrusive lighting. Seating is limited about 7-9 tables, some 2 person some 4 person seating. They have a high chair and booster seat for kids.
There is ample parking available for the seating inside.
What we had:
Rama noodles. These were something to behold. The sauce alone had a multitude of hinted flavors, the noodles were perfectly done, not squidgy soft, not undercooked. The Spinach was also very fresh and crisp. The chicken was melt in your mouth done.
Tom yum soup: WOW!, I have had this soup in so many other restaurants and they all felt the same, tasted the same, over cooked flavors run together. But at Krua, wow!, there was a sweet spice, a hint of ginger, perfectly done mushrooms, wonderfully sliced chicken. Just simply wow. The attention to fresh food, vegetables, and meats is amazing. You can certainly tell how much they wish their food to represent them.
Fried Chicken wings: Ours arrived hot, with a slightly spicy sweet peppery jelly. They were stuffed with Rice noodles, peas, carrots, cabbage. The whole package was amazing. It is certainly not a easy thing to make, and is most likely a time consuming dish. The taste! As you might have guessed they have layered the flavors so they are distinctive and crisp. Normally in a dish of this type I would expect muted flavor or a run together morass of jumbled mixes. Not here, not in this dish.
The daily special: Deep fried trout with garlic sauce. Some of you may know my love for Japanese cooking, in particular fried fish. It is a difficult thing to pull off. To get the exterior done, crisp and the fins edible, while keeping the meat from being rubbery. Guess what! It was perfect. The fins melted in your mouth, the fish was flakey and moist, then comes the sauce. Wow, by it’s self the fish almost had a nutty smoked flavor, combined with the sauce it really stood out as a superior dish, Each of the flavors complimented each other very well.
Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. Neither was overly sweet, or overly iced.
In all, I have finally found a place I can go to without hesitation and know that I will receive a high quality meal by someone who takes pride in their cooking.

I have had an auto repair shop here in Seattle for the last twenty years on NE 55th st. in Seattle. I have seen many restaurants come and go from the location across the street, thai, teriyaki etc. But the new " Krua Thai Family Kitchen " is a keeper. I can eat at this restaurant three times a week and never get tired of it. I have NEVER had a bad meal there and have probably eaten there15 to 20 times. The food has always been fresh and well prepared.. Everyone I talk to in the neighboorhood has the same high praises for them. The food is delicious and healthy with a wide variety of dishes on the menu. The staff is super nice and the place is clean. The prices are reasonable. Highly recommend. * * * * *

Okay, I cried over the loss of Thai Dusit, but I can overlook that with the arrival of this new place which delivers some solid home Thai cooking. (We liked Thai Dusit and the man behind the burners who could cook some mean food, but they were probably not charging enough to stay in business.)
This place is right down the street from Pair and Kid Valley. While it's no place to impress anyone, it is a full service restaurant (in that they bring you food and pour you water). They kept the last restaurant's cheesy electric fireplace, but otherwise they decorated it with simple, if not sparse, pseudo-modern furnishings (maybe from IKEA).
Well, on to the food. It's good. For now they are delivering some solid food with fresh ingredients. This is a good place for basil lovers; I recommend Spicy Basil Fried Rice and their Kee Mao Noodles with wide noodles. They are at the good mac-and-cheese comfort level, only better. I'd want to eat the Kee Mao every day, if I don't crave variety. Their papaya salad is also excellent - no more cheap, tiny dry shrimps topping the salad - you can actually see that they are shrimps! :-) Very flavorful. Massaman curry is also good and creamy. It's one of those things that makes you think, "this must be soooo bad for my caloric intake, but I can eat this again tomorrow", esp. if you are having PMS.
There are some misses in the menu, like their "Thai style Sukiyaki". Don't know what they were going for there. Just so you know, it's more of a soup than sukiyaki, and its spices are too simplistic and not very exciting. It's good for clearing your sinus, though.
The prices are right between fast food restaurants and true restaurants - most dishes are $8-9, which makes this place a prime stop when you don't feel like cooking. If you are in the neighborhood, give it a try. They also deliver locally for free for orders over $15.
