I love The Green Bean Coffee House. The ladies who own the non-profit business are always friendly and ready with a smile. They are also generous, not only with their patrons but also with the charities and organizations that they help support. Most, if not all, of their tips go to various projects, they carry all organic, fair trade coffees and they always have interesting gifts that are made by people from around the world.
The coffee is very good, the pastries are delightful...the quiche is yummy and always interesting. They also had a chef come in at one point and create these cookies just for them...I don't know how to describe these cookies but the word 'orgasmic' comes to mind every time I think about them. They were like chocolate chip cookies but only in the vaguest and best sense of the word. They had very finely ground coffee beans in them, chunks of rich deep chocolate, plenty of butter but part of the butter was replaced with cream cheese. Topped with more chocolate and whole coffee beans...they were amazing. They haven't had them there since but I have told them that I want to be put on the waiting list!
Oftentimes you will walk into the Green Bean and there will be folk singers jamming or someone playing the piano. None of these people are paid, they just come and play and the end result is wonderful. They also host classes sometimes for different things.
Peaceful, cheery, comfortable, delicious and friendly...5 stars for the Green Bean!
Lisa and Hayden ROCK!

I concur that these women are amazingly friendly. And it's so nice that this coffee shop actually gives money to non-profits...and not just some small amount either. It's also a great space: warm, cozy, inviting. I'd move closer just for this place.
I like that they sponsor organizations...if you're going to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, might as well be going to something beneficial.

I love this local coffeshop....just around the corner from my house. It was started by two ultra-hip, ultra-cute, ultra-spiritual twenty-somethings. The shop received some funding from their church (a non-denominational church which meets at the Tap Root theater next door every Sunday). I believe it was intended to be viewed as a sort of missionary venture, of sorts. Don't let that scare you off, though. While the young ladies running the place aren't shy about their faith, it's not really pushed upon you. However, if you drop in on a Friday night, open mike night will mostly consist of young Christian singles playing the guitar or reading original poetry but the kids are really talented. Overlook the religious theme (if u must) and stay for a cup of good coffee. It's hard to be so jaded as to not appreciate their youthful exuberence and good, happy vibes for at least 30 minutes or so.
I believe the main objective of this place was to create a friendly , neighborhood coffeeshop with a sense of community. Last I heard, the place is still being run as a non-profit (perhaps proceeds going back to their church) but all tips in the tip jar are donated to a local charity each month...such as the Boys and Girls club. All in all... a sweet, little place with a great sense of community involvement and a nice place for even the more non-religious folsk in the 'hood. :) (Oh, and work by local artists, too)...Check it out!

...This place is famous for their co-owners Lisa & Hayden who seem to be about the friendliest young ladies in Seattle. Nearly every time I'm in there I hear them caring for or encouraging some poor soul or local worker that had a bad date the night before.
This place is all about community, has a cozy/country farmhouse vibe with bright lighting and a little fireplace in the corner. Always plenty of room to sit and read unless it's open mic night.
It's also famous for DONATING TIPS to local non-profits like the Boys & Girls club...wow. As we all know, tips are what make working a coffeeshop worthwhile. So this is pretty unusual.
They have live music on friday's and some saturday's and also an open mic on Wednesday's.
Free parking is around back, that's the secret I figured out after parking at the drugstore for a while (never got a ticket). No wifi yet, but always a good conversation to be had. Also check out the great African art & bags/jewelry they sell... it all goes to support a good cause!
Great pastries and bagels here too. Brown & Co coffee is fair trade & organic. i guess that means it's HEALTHY!?
