Zak's reminds me of an independent version of Red Robin. Fun things on the walls to look at and a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Parking can be a pain on Friday and Saturday nights as Zaks is just a few doors down from the movie theater. The food is good. The hamburgers are nothing too special but hit the spot. The chicken burger is a nice piece of breast meat with a yummy dijon sauce. The grilled cheese sandwich is made with real chedder cheese, not the sliced american crap. They always a have a daily special, which is the same 3 choices... but its a great deal. Its a chicken burger, regular burger or fish burger, with fries and a pop with unlimited refills for under $8. The fries are DELICIOUS! As are the onion rings. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The "booths" feel like plywood and have no pads so it can be uncomfy. They serve beer here as well.

There is something about battered fries--making something that is already bad for you even worse--but so good. The fries at Zak's are the epitome of dangerous. Not only battered, but also nicely spiced with black pepper (and who knows what else that makes them addictive). The burger's themselves are not the greatest. I think the bun and the fixings were great--but the patty was only okay. But the fries...yum.

Zak's has a nice, laid back atmosphere. The milk shakes are huge and good, made with good ice cream. The onion rings have a thin bread coating and are good, especially with the ranch sauce. The fries are breaded or something and are very good. I got the bacon cheese burger. The bacon is smoked or something and is pretty good (few to much fatty parts) I prefer crunchy bacon but this is an ok change. The burgers are really big. Overall I give it a good rating. I felt not that great after leaving. Maybe I ate too much.

Zak's (located in Ballard) has the best burgers I've found in Seattle. I usually don't go searching for burgers, I usually prefer something else to burgers, BUT I actually crave the food here! The big burgers, the crispy fries, the comfortable atmosphere... You don't want to miss this place. I can't wait to go back...
