If you go (great date place), sit out on the deck or in their cozy, dark, modern dining area, and split appetizers!! They are by far the best stuff on the menu - our favorites are the oysters in spicy tomato bisque (very salty, but sinfully good) with bread and their fried planins!

This is the place to have a mojito (or two or three..) and enjoy a great dinner while watching the hipness that surrounds you. Yes, El Camino is about the food, but its also about the trendiness. Granted the food is good but limited choices. I tend to stick to the carne asada tacos. On my last visit we tried a couple of apps, which were tasty, but nothing revolutionary. We also shared a lemon tart with a coconut cream which was outstanding (and the only dessert left on the menu on a Sunday evening).
I haven't made it their in the summer, but from my understanding that's really when it becomes a happening place.

The food can be really good if you hit the right dishes, but you can't go too far wrong with any menu item. This isn't a gourmet restaurant, but the prices aren't unreasonable for what you get either. The margaritas are big, tasty and strong!
A bar area behind the main restaurant has tables and seating on a first in first served basis. You can eat there which makes for easy 'drop in' meals if you're there before it gets busy (which it does around 8pm Friday/Saturday nights).
The deck is nice in the summer time - one of the only pleasant outdoor spots in Fremont.

The decor is cozy urban, which I don't think is an actual term, but it makes sense for this restaurant. It is set in a former craftsman home, but has a light urban feel on the inside.
I've been told that the El Camino bar becomes a meat market on weekend evenings, although I have yet to witness it.
