They do good sandwiches which are unexpected. We had Crispy Drunken Chicken and slow cooked pork with reduced wine sauce or something rather. Just writing about it makes me hungry. For my taste I'd add a little more veggies and cilantro to Drunken Chicken, but that's just me. It's probably perfect for a regular meat eater, and flavors are yummmmm-y. The chicken and pork are both very, very tender. The sandwiches are $6-7, and you get what you pay for and then some. Their fries are good too (have it with truffle oil). It's no sub shop, so don't go in there expecting to spend $5, but more like $10/pp. The food is great for a hungry stomach who needs quick fix, when you don't want to degrade yourself to fast food.
It's considered Capital Hill, but it's at the very edge (1203 Pine St) - and I'd consider it really bordering downtown. It is hard to park but not impossible.

They make sandwiches taste gourmet. The salumi, so yummy. Daikon radish, herbs, coppa and prosciutto. Why eat at scubway when we have this for the taking?

I found this little gem in Capitol Hill just east of the highway on my quest for a decent sandwich. The sandwiches are incredible -- so tasty and some unusual combinations. Drunken chicken will sweep you off your feet. Several slow pork options. Most (all?) are made on great baguettes. Prices have gone up a bit but you get what you pay for.

I've been stuck on the Crispy Drunken Chicken Baguette, but hope to try some of their other sandwiches soon. I was nearly swayed by the Grilled Lemongrass Skirt Steak Baguette last night & all the other sandwiches looked especially tasty.
The who run this place are very friendly & really take pride in the quality of their offerings. They're in a great location for folks who like to walk downtown from Capitol Hill or walk up to Capitol Hill from downtown.

I enjoyed a really tasty variation on the typical vegetarian tofu vietnamese sandwich at the baguette box. Like most tofu vietnamese sandwiches, it consisted of chunks of fried tofu, carrots, pickeled (?) radish, cilantro, onions, etc, but the high quality bread and the exceptionally delicious tofu made this sandwich stick out.
I also had the beet salad, and it was super good... thin tender slices of beets swimming in garlicy olive oil.
Downsides: a little bit expensive, and parking can indeed be difficult if you plan on arriving via car

The downsides are seating and parking are dificult and, at least around lunch time, you can get a little more for your money elseware.

The baguette box is a nifty little place on capitol hill that serves a whole bunch of really tasty sandwiches. Most of them are hot sandwiches with fillings like stew, lamb, spicy chicken, etc. Very good. They also make really excellent fries, although they are quite expensive. The place is tiny and it's sometimes difficult to get a seat to eat there (but you do want to eat there...the sandwich won't be as hot and the bread won't be as crisp if you take out). Just be patient.

The sandwiches here are to DIE for. They are variations on a Vietnamese sandwiches, so they are served on baguettes w/ mayonnaise, cilantro, onions and carrot slices and a wide variety of fillings. The trademark drunken chicken is fabulously seasoned and the lamb (when it isn't sold out) is perfectly tender. The best part is the cost--all sandwiches are about 5 - 9 dollars and they are big enough to feed two.
