a safe, clean and happy environment, I recommend this Bally location. I've been taking my 4 yr. old twins here for a couple years now and I'm very pleased. There are two rooms, one of which is a mirrored "gym" type room where they can play on mats & run around. The other is a carpeted room w/ all the goodies - toys, puzzles, art supplies, etc. The cost is SO reasonable compared to what I've heard some people pay elsewhere. I get a two child punch card with 20 punches for $80. They are allowed to stay for 2 hrs., so it ends up being $1 per hr. per child.
Having said that, I must also say this; there is a lot of turnover. However, I don't think this is uncommon in the daycare/preschool arena. And on that subject, this is not a preschool setting. If you're looking for classrooms and set schedules, ABCs and 123s, a Pro Club type center would be more to your liking.
It took me a good 2 years to feel comfortable leaving my kids with anyone (including my husband - Ha Ha) and this place made the grade. My goal is for my kids to be safe and have fun while I'm working out (school will come soon enough) and Bally's has been just great.
Good luck!

If you’re looking for cheap yoga, check out Mind and Body on 21st and Union. An hour of yoga there is just $5 and all classes are drop-in. I’m just beginning to practice regularly so I can’t speak for more serious students, but the instructors I’ve had have all been very good.
All ability classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. An intermediate class is held on Sundays. Come early to this one though, because it can get quite crowded. There's also a number of pilates classes offered throughout the week.
Hardcore yoga types might be left wanting more challenge or number of classes. But, if you’re just beginning or looking to get a good stretch in, Mind & Body is the spot.

If you like vinyasa (or 'flow') yoga, Shakti Vinyasa on Market Street in Ballard is my top pick in Seattle. Studio owner Lisa Black was a long-time instructor at 8 Limbs in Wedgood before striking out on her own about a year ago. In a very short time, she's created a warm, welcoming studio with a great team of instructors.
Lisa's studio has a loose affiliation with well-known instructor Baron Baptiste, and her teaching style is similar, blending traditional yoga poses and discipline with a powerful, flow-oriented sequencing and pacing. Classes can be meditative, but you should also expect a solid, full-body workout.
Also, unlike some other studios around town, Shakti has great practice spaces - with high ceilings, warm colors and great light.
Finally, if you're looking for a good excuse to go abroad, Lisa also runs annual week-long clinics every February at Maya Tulum in Mexico. (See my article on traveling to Tulum to get my take on the area -- it's another personal favorite).

As a non-yoga person, I really liked the class I took here. I had a back injury years back and I have suffered in yoga every since. But not here! I took a gentle class that actually WAS gentle. The teacher paid attention and let me know other poses to do instead. There was a non-competitive feeling and I left feeling good about yoga again. The teachers at WLY are really good. They aren't trying to pack the class or move everyone at the same pace.
I hear the teacher training is also really great.

The Exercise Company located in the basement of The Smith Tower is small, but very nice.
It's mostly professionals in the building and you never have to wait for any of the machines. Eric Olsen is one of the founders and is a great trainer.
they have showers/lockers and it's a very clean gym. plenty of running/bike machines, weight machines and tvs:)
www.exercisecompany.com
if you're in the area, this is definitely the best, small niche gym in downtown. rates are reasonable as well.

The old Keg restaurant in the University District hasn't changed much now that it has become the home of University Fitness, but you can't order a steak anymore. The gym is a small, local place to work-out, and the best part is that the place is never very busy. Even right after work, you can get on any of the machines you want without a wait. Unfortunately, the laid back friendly staff has a laid back attitude towards cleaning the locker room which often smells of sweat and other foul odors. Their ad really says it all, this is the only gym in the U-District (that is unless you're able to join the IMA at the UW).

Samadhi is a great studio. It has several studio rooms for different classes, with solid and square floors and lots of equipment for use. Their teachers have been great, in my experience. They're particuarly good at bringing back the lapsed yoga student and helping jump-start your yoga practice anew.
The parking is awful, as usual, and the prices are standard for the area.

Highline is a pretty decent club for a smaller town. Their monthy rates include all their classes (which I appreciate) and they offer body pump (a mix of arobics and weights), yoga and weights. With two basketball courts that convert to pickle ball, they are equipt for most exericise. They also have a pool that is a mixture of bromine and chlorine, which is a little easier on the skin.
